So Fun! My favorite TV show was “Punky Brewster”. I have fond memories of snuggling up with my little sister, in footie pajamas, after bathtime on Sunday nights watching this show. It was a special treat because we didn’t watch much TV back then. : )

I’m from Somerville, Massachusetts

Jennifer K - February 21, 2013 - 9:02 am

Karen S - February 21, 2013 - 9:04 am

My favorite TV show was The Wonderful World of Disney. It came with mixed feelings however because it meant bedtime at the end of it…and the end of the gloriously fun weekend!

Brooke U - February 21, 2013 - 9:04 am

I love the Care Bears as a kid. We watched the movies, the tv shows, and we had so many toys. My favorite was cheer bear. She loved seeing people smile and seeing people happy. I’m from Royal Oak, MI.

Jeannie - February 21, 2013 - 9:05 am

OK, here goes. This memory always reminds me that as parents we do our best, and sometimes must get a little creative to teach a lesson. My two sisters and I were in the back of the station wagon on a family road trip from Boston, MA to Jackson, WY. We were bored, tired, and getting on each other’s last nerves. My father told us several times to “pipe down” and to “knock it off”. FInally, he had had enough. Dad pulled the wood sided, puke green station wagon over on the side of the highway in Nebraska and told us to get out. We were dumbfounded. We started laughing. Being a military officer, he put on his best gruff face and repeated the command. It was never good when Dad was forced to repeat himself. So, Leslie, Pam and I piled out of the car. As soon as we were out, Dad drove down the highway and left us there with our mouths hanging open in disbelief. About 1/4 of the mile up the highway (Nebraska is pretty flat), Dad pulled back over, turned off the car and waited. We all started running like mad to get back to the car – laughing all the way – both from relief and as a release of nervous energy. I can’t remember ever arguing again with my sisters during one of the famous Barton family road trip “vacations”.

My Dad died a little over a year ago and I have inherited the family pictures and films (11 moving boxes full of them). So, the combo of The History Project and PL Kit would be my ticket to organizational happiness! Thanks for the chance to win.

My favorite childhood thing was our hammocks, which were just at the edge of our woods. There was a rope tied to a nearby tree, so you could lay on the hammock and pull the rope to make the hammock sway (or swing, as it were). I’ve worn glasses since I was 4, and one of the neatest thing was to take my glasses off so all the leaves would go fuzzy with the sunlight dappling through the leaves. Just beautiful. And I live in Mentor, Ohio.

Elisa - February 21, 2013 - 9:15 am

I don’t know about favorite memory, but my most vivid first memory was when I was about 2.5 & I was watching movies with my brother while laying in my parents’ bed & a bat flew in the room. My brother, my BIG brother, was scared and hid under the covers while I, being 2 years younger, had to be the brave one to go find Mom & Dad.

Kim Lee - February 21, 2013 - 9:46 am

One of my many favorite memories is something that my dad always did with us every Thursday night when my mom went to her ceramic class(yes ceramics LOL)! He would take us up to our local small grocery store and let us pick out 25 cents worth of candy. Not to age myself cause I’m not that old but you wouldn’t believe how much candy you could get then for 25 cents. I think that is where the phrase got started “just like a kid in a candy store” because I thought it was so special and fun for my siblings and I too pick out our own candy while the grocer but it in our own small size brown bag just for us! It is something so simple but memorable to me. Thanks for all of your great designs and ideas. I enjoy your products so much!

Each doll came with a car, a piece of the Upsie Downsie Land “game board” and a bridge to connect them. As your collection grew so did your Upsie Downsie Land. My cousin and I collected them together and played with them for hours.

My favorite childhood memory was going to my grandparents’ house on the lake each summer for atleast a week. My grandma (Omi) was the best cook and would make us delicious meals all week long! My Papa would take us out to the ranch and put us to work. One year, I remember my brother, and I building a small dam in the river that ran next to the ranch. My Omi showed up for lunch bringing us homemade hamburgers, fries and the best homemade strawberry shakes! The best memories were made with them.

One of my best childhood trips was my first visit Disneyland. Who doesn’t love the Happiest Place on Earth? Growing up in So Cal Disneyland is only a few miles from home, but it was still expensive for a family to go. My parents have always been hard working and they saved some money for us to go, we’re a family of 6. I’ll never forget how I felt and what a special day that was for me. Today I take my daughter all the time since we have passes, but even though I’ve been many times, I still get that “little girl” feeling in my tummy when we arrive. I hope she too will have great memories like this.

When I was a little girl, I loved I Dream of Jeannie! When I was in Kindergarten,I brought home a bottle(yes a bottle), I painted and turned into a vase as a Mother’s Day gift. One day, shortly after, my parents called me downstairs, and told me that they thought Jeannie was in the bottle I made.(They had their friend blow smoke into it,crazy I know, and put a cork in it). I anxiously opened it, and when the smoke came out I could not contain my excitement! Of course,Jeannie didn’t come out, but they had me search the house for her…I finally found the special toy I had longed for, Jeannie’s bottle, with a jeannie doll, her bed, etc. It is a magical memory…Wish I had kept the toy :(

My most favorite vacaton was our Christmas spent at my Granny’s on Long Island. That was the first time I saw snow (we lived in Florida). Oh how I wish my Mother had made scrapbooks of our vacations! Now I document almost EVERYTHING so my kids and grandkids will know all the things that happened when they were young.

From North Carolina :-)

Laura K - February 21, 2013 - 10:20 am

When I think of something happy from my childhood I think of my favorite stuffed bear Dudley. He is a Furskin which was made by Xavier Roberts, the guy behind Cabbage Patch dolls. I fell in love with him when I saw him in a store while I was spending the summer with my great aunt and uncle one year. It was a surprise gift. I had made a deal with my uncle that if I painted his deck in his backyard he would buy me a porcelain doll because I had always wanted one. To my surprise, he bought me not only the doll but the bear as well. I think I actually cried. Now my youngest daughter has him and I think he is so special to her not only because he was mine but because of the story behind the bear as well. Just goes to show how powerful a story can be. Thank you for the chance to win!

She would fold an old quilt into a square and set it on top for us kids to use as a cushion to sit on. Then we would go for a walk around the neighborhood with Grandma pushing us on the “mower”. One of my favorite trips as a child was going to upstate New York and visiting my grandparents at their summer house. They bought property in the 1940s with my aunts and uncles and each family has a house and a pool was at the bottom of the hill. I spent my summers lazing around the pool or playing in the woods with my cousins. It was my summer camp, since I never attended camp as a child.

Missy G - February 21, 2013 - 11:01 am

We used to visit my Aunt and Uncle in a small mountain town in northern California. The forest was across the street, there were meadows and the air was so crisp and clean. I remember picking these tiny wildflowers and thinking they were so neat. I have very good memories of my time there. Sometimes now, when it is fall and spring and the air is crisp and clean here, and people are using their wood burning fireplaces the smell takes me back and makes me wish I could take my family there!

What a cool idea! My favorite childhood memory is probably when we pretended (daily) our backyard was lava and we had to figure out how to get around so we didn’t “get burned.” We turned rocks, sticks, leaves, and anything else on the ground into a safe spot, including our jungle gym playset we had! Oh, how it would be great to go back to those times! We just moved from Dayton, Ohio to Mobile, AL – cannot wait to share these memories with my own kiddos one day!

Oh, this is a fabulous idea! I’ve wanted to take this class…but have been holding off because, you know, so many projects. :O But love this giveaway – yay!

Favorite toy from my childhood was my stuffed striped “giraffe zebra” whom I called Jaffy. Loved him dearly, and as a result, had to keep sewing patches (with my big little-kid stitches) over various parts of him as the original fabric wore out and the stuffing peeked through. I still have him.

Stacia - February 21, 2013 - 11:17 am

Whoops, forgot to add that I’m from Redmond, WA!

Peggy Durst - February 21, 2013 - 11:18 am

My favorite childhood memory is walking home from school, and stopping by my Daddy’s grocery store on the way home. He would buy me a bottle of coke, and when I was done, he would take my hand and walk me half way across the busy street, and when the traffic was clear, send me across the rest of the way, while he watched to be sure I was okay. Wish he was still here.

This class sounds wonderful. I think my favorite childhood toy was an old electric train set. It was my dad’s from when he was a kid. You had to splice the wires together to get it to run and when you ran it too fast it smelled like electrical burning. It’d probably be illegal now….we had so much fun loading it up with toys and running it around the tracks.

I guess I’d have to say one of my favorite memories was a trip we took to a really cool place called Land’s End near Homer, Alaska. We drove down from Anchorage (we lived on the AFB near there), and it was just the coolest place. The hotel was on stilts because of the earthquake in 1964; the ocean now came in under the hotel. They had a wonderful St. Bernard that was just the best dog named Ho Tai (happy Buddha). A year later when my parents got my brother and I a dog we named her Ho Tai.

We would always drive 4 hours to my Grandparents on Christmas Eve, we left in the morning after chores and would arrive in the afternoon in time to change and get ready for our Christmas supper and to open gifts. One year we unexpectedly left the evening before. We got to spend the whole day on Christmas Eve with my Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Fun times.

i may be aging myself here, well i know i am, but my favorite thing was to ride bikes all over the place with my friends with :gasp: no helmet, no cellphone, and no fear. we would ride 3, 4, 5 miles away and as long as we checked in periodically and were home by dark all was right with the world.

Gina Hanson - February 21, 2013 - 11:35 am

My fondest memories from my childhood days are from playing soccer . . . being coached by my dad. Having just recently lost him to brain cancer, reminiscing about my childhood is something I do quite often. My dad was my coach for most of my youth, I can remember being yelled at A LOT to go run because I wouldn’t quit talking. Because of that, I’m now a runner . . . and my dad was my biggest fan the day I ran my first marathon! ;)

One of my favorite childhood memories is a trip to the Jersey Shore and Seaside Heights boardwalk with my entire family when I was 8 years old. It is so very sad to see my old friend of a rollercoaster (the Jet Star)in the ocean due to Hurricane Sandy! I need to find photos of that vacation among my parents boxes… and get those memories scrapped! Thanks.

Teryl - February 21, 2013 - 11:42 am

Once summer came around our family would spend many a Friday or Saturday night at the drive-in movie theater. So fun! I bet I saw nearly every John Wayne western and Walt Disney movie during those days.

Melissa Cummings - February 21, 2013 - 11:43 am

My favorite thing as a child was my bike. Sad thing is I can’t remember what it looked like, but I remember the feeling of being able to ride all over all our small little town in New Jersey all day (except the one day I forgot to tell my mom and, well, that ended my “free” days for a while). Such a different time (the ’70s), to be able to roam like that, to ride to my friends’ houses a few streets over or my cousins’ house across town.

Thank you!

Oh my I have to chose just one?! Since we lived on a huge ranch in Southern Oregon, 50 miles from the nearest town, I have to say it was getting to go into town shopping. It was always fun and Dad and I would go to the Chinese Cafe(only one) and share a plate of deep fried shrimp. Then we would buy a months supplies of groceries and go home and milk the cows(ugh to that one).

I am from Vancouver, Washington now, but originally from Lake Creek Oregon

Naomi Dumot - February 21, 2013 - 11:51 am

I loved going to visit my Nanny. She lived a couple of hours away from us, so we only saw her a few times a year. She always had cookies from the local bakery. Unfortunately she passed away last week, so all we have is memories. This class seems timely for recording some of those. I’m from PA.

Erika Hayes - February 21, 2013 - 11:53 am

Favorite memory as a kid– I don’t have a lot, but we had a tree in the back pasture it had spiral limbs that even the littlest (me) sister could climb. Our horses hung out under the tree in the warmth of the day. I would get almost to the top and could see out over our property and sing as loud as I wanted without getting in trouble… it was a beautiful tree.. I loved it and treasure the memory of those days

Shawni Reynolds - February 21, 2013 - 11:56 am

I have so many fond memories of my childhood, when the days were still good with my parents. One of my favorites was during the summer. My dad was a cement mason and was home early during the day, and he would load my brother and I up, fill the car with boogie boards and drive us down to Mission Beach. We would spend the DAY.. the whole day, playing and splashing and body boarding and tanning and just having a blast. ALWAYS on the way home we’d stop at this little hole in the wall pizza place and each of us would get a GIANT slice of pizza. And always, ALWAYS, my brother and I would pass out on the drive home. The salt water crusted in our hair, sand in every nook and cranny, and pizza sauce on our fingers. Amazing. Thank you!!

Jillian S - February 21, 2013 - 12:07 pm

My favorite thing (not quite a toy) as a child was my baby blanket. My mom and dad purchased this winnie the pooh (old school with the rabbit) blanket in 1974. They tried to give it to my brother but it did not take. Almost 6 years later I was born and the blanket became mine. It has been dragged, run over, thrown up on…you name it! 38 years later the blanket is still in my possession. It is still in good shape because of the numerous times my dad (so thankful for him) has resewn it, hemmed it, you name it he did it. The edges are a little frayed after all these years ( my dad did stop repairing it at some point in my youth). I still contemplate whether it would be passed down to my future child but for right now it is still as perfect as it can be!

Hi, I’m Rosie from Brooklyn, NY. A favorite childhood trip was when my parents would pack us (me and three brothers) into the car for the 8-hour trip to visit my grandparents. I am not the best traveler, and my parents tell me that when I would ask, “How much longer?” in a certain tone, they knew I just might throw up very soon. We played, we listened to cassettes, we counted trucks, we laughed, and had great family bonding time.

My FAVORITE child memory was when my parents saved and scraped money to take me and my 3 brothers on a trip to California. My Dad made the back of the pickup truck with a top and side benches with a table and the table broke down so we could sleep there as well. We stopped every day in a state and saw something very cool and interesting to explore. We had a travel trailer so we had to sleep in a tent and in the back of the bed of the truck. *you would never travel that way now WAY TOO DANGEROUS!** We saw so many cool state parks, went to the grand canyon, stayed at a dude ranch, went to Disneyland. It was the best vacation ever. We took about 3 weeks and saw the US. What a better way to see things by car! I will never forget that trip and always talk about it to this day.

Also during the summers, my uncle, who lived three hours away in San Antonio, would let us stay with him up to two weeks at a time. His favorite thing to do is watch movies, so we did LOTS of that. I still love to watch movies!

One of my favorite childhood memories was when my parents surprised my sister and I with a puppy on Christmas morning. She was a beautiful black lab we named Princess. She was a part of our lives until I went away to college. The best part is that my parents captured the moment we saw her with their old camera. I cherish that picture! :) Thank you for a chance to win!

My favorite memory is our annual trips to Disneyland. We only lived an hour away. I had a big Dland map on the wall above my bed and would lay on the bed and plan out my day for several weeks ahead of time. There were ticket books back then (50s and 60s) so we had to pick and choose what we’d use each ticket (A, B, C, D, & E) for b/c there was never enough for every ride. The E tickets were the most coveted. I remember one year my mom saved enough green stamps to buy tickets for all seven of us. Great memories! Thanks for the chance to win! :)

Mud, mud, glorious mud! What fun!!! Thick mud, thin mud, grainy mud, silky smooth mud. Mud with shaving cream, mud with vegetable oil, mud with worms. Worms! Ick! Gross mud! Brown mud, red mud, tan mud, grey mud, dark mud, light mud. Oh the many types of mud. So many things to do and serve with mud.
The sound of mud, the smell of mud, the look and feel of mud. From the beautiful Earth mud exists. A mud pie maker as a child, a potter now. Ahh, glorious mud, from mud to clay.

From Colorado.

Do you remember Click Clacks aka Clackers? That toy with two acrylic balls on the ends of thick string that would swing to make a clacking noise when they made contact? Well, they were recalled and eventually made the top 10 dangerous toys list. I saw my mom take my brothers so I quickly hid mine. I fibbed and told her I lost them :>( They were hidden for so long because of my fib and my fear of “flying shrapnel” that when I found them not to long ago in an attic box I laughed and reminisced about the great fun my brother and I had enjoyed playing with them.

Tina Davis - February 22, 2013 - 1:51 pm

My favorite memories of childhood are road trips with my parents and grandparents! We would load up the car or van and take off! No seatbelt laws, so I would sit on their laps and sing along to the radio or sleep in the bed my dad built in the back of our full size van. I still LOVE road trips today!

I was just thinking about something today that always brings a smile to my face….my dad was in a bowling league on Thursday nights, and he would always come home with a candy surprise for my brother and I. He would hide it before he went to bed for us to find on Friday mornings. One day we couldn’t find the surprise but we knew he wouldn’t have forgotten….finally, I decided to check his coat pocket. Sure enough, there it was! I thought he was so clever for hiding it there! It was years later that I realized that he had forgotten to hide the candy when he had gotten home and it was still in his pocket. Oh the magic of childhood!

Kate - February 22, 2013 - 2:38 pm

I loved Beverly Hills 90210 – the first time around. I got to watch it by myself in my parents’ bedroom because my sisters were too little to watch it and I felt like it was the height of everything that was cool. I looked forward to it every week.

My favorite movie in my childhood was the 101 Dalmatians. An evil woman in fashion design stole 101 dalmatians puppies to make make her black dotted leather coat. The parents of some of the puppies defeated the villains and saved all the puppies. They and the rest of the dalmatian puppies had a life together happily ever after :)

My favorite “toy” growing up was an old Selectra typewriter I begged my Mom to buy for me at a yard sale when I was 8 years old. It was hideous orange but in perfect working order and I LOVED it. I would spend hours in my room typing lists, stories and occassionally homework (my teacher wouldn’t accept it b/c it was suppose to be handwritten). When I was in 9th grade I got an award for the fastest typest at 97 wpm :)

In my neighborhood we had a fair number of kids, but I was the oldest by a couple years. We all hung out and played a ton, but I loved taking rainy days to play in our basement. I always want to play “school” because as the bossy oldest “I” got to be the teacher! LOL Many fun memories!!!

Emerald - February 23, 2013 - 6:35 am

I have quite a bit of childhood memories that I treasure. Family traditions like going to church on christmas even then big dinner get together at my paternal grandparents along with my dad’s 8 other siblings and their families (which comprised of 27 grandkids hanging out together). Then followed by chritmas day visit to my maternal grandparents with my mom’s siblings and their families. I look forward to end of school year and the opportunity to stay at my grandparents house for 1-2 weeks, playing with my cousins, story telling from my grandpa about his life and digging into old pictures. My grandpa was born in 1902 and witnessed the turn of the century and got to live 100 yrs old with his memory very much intact. We might don’t get to be lucky to have that long life and good memory but if we record and document our lives, then we have something we can look back on when our memory fails or have something to share and pass on.

One of my favorite childhood memories is waking up on weekend mornings with my little brother, stealing a handful of cookies (hiding them under my blanket so no one sees), watching Smurfs and HeMan, with the big ole Tupperware bowl full of gross-last-night’s-stale popcorn, “playing” (since I didn’t know how to play it) that war board game with the map- I forget what it’s called. Aaah, the fun we had… :)

My favorite childhood memory was going on a month long trip with our travel trailer to visit historical sights on the eastern coast. ( we lived in Utah) We have seven kids in my family and we had a blast staying at KOA camps and swimming in a different camp pool every night! Nine people living, cooking, sleeping in a trailer for a month…….awesome! I now realize what a huge sacrifice my parents made to make that trip possible.
