new kit | xoxo

It’s February already. I can’t even believe it’s here! I know I say this all the time, but I have no idea where the time goes! It’s a good thing we get an extra day this month because I’m gonna need it! ;) Finally, extra hours in the day…uhhh…I mean month!

February is such a fun time of year, isn’t it? Love the love. I was so excited to work on this next kit! My head doth exploded with Valentine+Love goodness. I can’t even tell you how many things I didn’t put in this baby!  Alas, I will just have to save them for another time.

In the meantime, check out what all comes in the new xoxo kit!

[ Comes in STUDIO/SVG/DXF/AIv8/PNG ]

Price: $12

Holy cannoli! I told y’all it was gonna be loaded. But as opposed to my Facebook status this morning, it’s nowhere near the $50 price I was joking about. :)

There are little foldable banners, a doily, journaling + playing cards–that can fit into your Project LIfe, many titles, arrows and a cute little heart border. The two little journaling cards in the upper-right say ‘a little bit crazy in love with you.’ But I think my favorite–besides the heart border–would be the ‘Unconditional. Loving you just because I can.’ I don’t know why that one just tickles my fancy. :)

Anyway, tons of different things that you can use all year long, doesn’t just have to be for Valentines. Because, after all, we’re always showing love, right? And you know, you could cut off the word ‘you’ with the title ‘ a little bit crazy in love with…’ and then add something like ‘chocolate’ or ‘hawaii’ or ‘george clooney’.

And the other day I got to spend some ‘q.t’ with this group . . . minus Kristy . . .
who was there, but refused to be phototgraphed. She’s such a ninny!

[me. viv grothe. lisa bearnson. loni stevens. and kristy banks standing behind the camerea...the poo poo head. and i did strongly stick out my tongue at her a few times letting her know of my contempt for her nonphotographness.]

It’s a good thing we have birthdays because we at least get together for that!
This time? Lunch at Cafe Paesan. I tell you what . . . it was divine!
If you’re a fan of Cafe Rio and you love Italian too, this is sooooo danged good!
The people that started Cafe Rio, started this place.
It’s definitely worth date night!

I sure do ‘xoxo’ these girls. ;)

Oh, and I suppose you’d love to know who the winners are for the new xoxo kit here on the blog! That would be . . . . insert drumroll here . . .

Rhadonda - February 4, 2012 - 6:32 pm

I have been away for a week with my husband, no TV, no internet. I knew i would miss something good! Kit looks awesome. You girls are beautiful.

Elizabeth - February 26, 2013 - 10:25 am

Had this in my card for $9, went to check out and now it’s $12…

Kerri - February 26, 2013 - 10:54 am

Hey Elizabeth!
It was on sale the week of Valentines (along with some others) and I thought I had set them all back to the regular prices a couple weeks ago. When I went to make a link for my post today (Naomi had used it), I noticed it never got reset, so I fixed it. Sorry ’bout that….but it wasn’t suppose to still be on sale. :)

Elizabeth - February 26, 2013 - 10:58 am

Bummer, oh well. No worries :)

feelin’ the love

I told y’all I was in a valentine / pinky mood.
Here’s something to get you started thinking about it too! :)

[ Comes in SVG/STUDIO/DXF/AIv8/PNG]

Price: $1

I included three color versions because I was just in the mood. It’s how I roll sometimes. But that’s not to say you couldn’t alter colors to suit your needs. There’s also a version that’s just black text, no background.

There are also cut files so that if you wanted to cut it on vinyl, you could surely do that too!

Oh, and these would make awesome Valentine cards too!

ShellyE - January 17, 2012 - 7:22 pm

Thank you! Thank you! I was SOOO hoping you would do one of these for Valentines Day. Loooove it!

Donna Kay Langan - February 1, 2012 - 4:12 pm

Just love your designs, I just started using my Silhouette cameo and plan to do my first scrapbook this week for my son who is 15 and just asked me where his baby book is….ugh…I’m working on it right now!

sending christmas cards . . .

As usual, my delusions of grandeur lead me to believe I’ll be making so many styles of cards this time of year. Sadly, it’s the 14th and I could only manage one–and a bit late at that. There’s always next year, right? ;) And I thought I was gonna start early this year too. But here’s a thought, use it in your December Daily for just a fun photo frame!

So here’s this year’s card:

Includes 2 styles each–distressed or plain–of horizontal and vertical PNG files.
Price: $2

You know me and choices . . . gotta make something that will suit your needs and your preferences. :)
Horizontal or vertical. Plain or Distressed.

All you need to do is drop this baby over  photo and voila! You’re done!
In the spirit of having to follow ‘directions’ this Christmas, it’d go something like this:

Since I refused to use my old family photo (still need a new one!), I thought I’d use a favorite photo I took of Angela Ash’s family a bit ago. (Angela is Lisa Bearnson’s sister and used to do QVC stuff with moi.)

Mary Owen - December 14, 2011 - 2:13 pm

I love your Card templates! LOL! It would sure shake people up if you sent Angel’s family picture as your Christmas Card this year.

Cori in WA - December 14, 2011 - 9:41 pm

Stunning! And guess what? It’s not too late!!! Really! Round up those youngsters and that oldster of yours and snap away. Bet you could get them in the mail before I do! (Amy won’t be home until saturday night and she HAS to sign our cards before I can mail them. It’s a rule).

I’ll look forward to seeing your beautiful family photo :)

{dawn} - December 15, 2011 - 7:41 am

I think I will give this a go! Of course, I too do not have a recent photo of the family – I will use one with my dogs around the tree! At first, you fooled me with the “snld”. It took me a while to figure it was actually “plus”! Air head me!

Deneen - December 16, 2011 - 5:18 pm

Love it wish it had come out a few days earlier LOL. But I just may have to buy it for next year it is so cute!

Karen W - December 20, 2011 - 8:32 pm

Wonderful template! I will be adding it to my cart.

Karen

christmas countdown

I can remember as a child getting the advent calendars with a little piece of chocolate hidden within the perforated square of each day in December. Not the easiest way to do an advent calendar with three kids still at home.

What do you mean we have to take turns?

Last year I really wanted to make a fun advent calendar come to fruition,
but other creative deadlines didn’t allow me the luxury.

But this year?

Oh yeah baby!

(whoops . . . i was obviously experiencing a dyslexic moment.
22 + 23 should be switched in the pic. oh well. lol)

[Comes in SVG/STUDIO/DXF/AIv8/PNG]

Price: $12

This concept is very unique in that it’s just so darned flexible!

So many choices.

The ‘calendar’ is actually comprised of little open boxes,
which are hidden behind the tag shape. So it’s a tag, with a secret behind it.

You can put candy in there, a little note, gum, a Hot Wheels car maybe, Lip Smackers lip gloss . . . anything fun and small . . . or even bigger if you want to make the boxes bigger!

I made mine (and the shapes are sized this way) at 1.75″ wide and 3″ tall and the box is about 1/2″ deep. Of course, in the wonderful land of die cutting, you can always make it bigger.

My plan is to get a 16×20 frame–no glass–and string three rows of wire to hang the boxes from with  clothespins spray painted in red and silver…maybe white….maybe black too. Of course, there are sooooo many ways you can display and/or use them!

Tie them to a garland with string.
Hang them from a string of lights over your mantle.
Use those IKEA hooks.
Skip the box and just use the tags.
Use them in your December Daily . . . or any Christmas page.

The list could go on and on!

I also used a mat silver cardstock that I’ve had for like ever . . . along with shiny silver cardstock.

You can also cut boxes from your own holiday paper. I liked the cardstock method and sticking to red, white, silver and black . . . but it’s all up to you!

Here’s some tips on making it:

Cut 21 white cardstock boxes (7 pieces of cardstock) and 3 red cardstock boxes (1 piece of cardstock)
Print the 8×10 candy cane background found in the PROJECT_Print_Files and use to cut some of the pieces.

Note:  Since first creating the kit, I moved the candy cane backgrounds into the PROJECT_Print_Files directory so that all print files needed for the project will be in one directory. They were formerly in the PNG directory.)

Assembling the BOX.

  • Assemble decoration first on textured/decorated side.
  • Adhere the reinforcement.
  •  Assemble the box by placing adhesive on the very bottom rectangle section, the two side squares, and one side of the back–all on the textured side of the cardstock.
  • Flip it over, and roll up the bottom portion of the box so that the pieces form the ‘tuck in’ part.
  • Fold the side of the box with the adhesive inward first, then fold the outside on top of it.

ONE.
Adhere the Santa image, ‘making a list’ and ‘one’

TWO.
Adhere ’2′. Wrap string around, thread ‘ho ho ho’ and tie in a knot.

THREE.
Adhere ‘three’ background tag shape. Adhere ornament and add real ornament hook and rhinestones. Adhere ‘believe.’

FOUR.
Adhere candy cane background tag shape. Adhere ’4′ to red circle and adhere behind ‘Noel’. Adhere ensemble to box.

FIVE.
Adhere a small section of foam between the two slits of gingerbread man cookie cutter. Thread small grey strip through slits and secure to foam. Adhere to box. Adhere ‘five’ on top of that.

SIX.
Adhere ’06′ and accent with star gem or rhinestone.

SEVEN.
Use a pop dot under the wing and adhere to bird. Add ribbon and rhinestone, if desired. Assemble domino. Adhere bird and domino to box, tucking the legs of the bird behind the domino.

EIGHT.
Cut notches on the center sides of the ’8′ card. Wrap string around and adhere to box. Tie a ribbon in a knot, trim ends and attach to box with a glue dot.

NINE.
Adhere paint strip card to the right side of the box. Adhere ’9.’ to left side of box.

TEN.
Adhere definition word strip to left side of box. Adhere tree. Adhere ‘TEN’. Add star gem on top.

ELEVEN.
Adhere ‘Be Good’ and ’11′ as shown.

TWELVE.
Adhere  card to box and secure with staples.

THIRTEEN.
Adhere music to black background and adhere to box. Adhere ‘thirteen’.

FOURTEEN.
Adhere grey tag portion to box. Adhere ‘deck the halls’ to base of grey piece. Adhere ‘CHRIS’ and ’14′ as shown.

FIFTEEN.
Align ‘with boughs of holly’ with the  title on the 14 box. Adhere ‘TMAS’ as shown. Add large star, having the right edge hang over a little. Trim. Adhere ‘fifteen’ title. Add red star gem.

SIXTEEN.
Adhere grey tag piece to box. Adhere snowflake so that a small portion hangs over the edge. Trim.  Wrap string around, thread ‘sixteen’ and tie in a knot.

SEVENTEEN.
Adhere Bingo card to box. Tie knot in ribbon, trim ends and adhere to box with a glue dot.

EIGHTEEN.
Adhere ’18′. Adhere ‘dear santa’ so that it overlaps the left a little and trim. Secure with staples.

NINETEEN.
Adhere candy cane portion to top of box. Adhere ‘nineteen’ to base of the candy cane piece. Adhere ‘Joy.’

TWENTY.
Adhere ticket, ’20′ and holly in that order.

TWENTY ONE.
Adhere grey/white definition piece to box. Adhere ‘twenty one’ as shown.

TWENTY TWO.
Place paper clip on stamp. Tie ribbon on top of paper clip. Adhere ensemble to box.

TWENTY THREE.
Adhere candy cane background to box. Adhere ’23′. Wrap ribbon around and accent with snowflake charm or jingle bell (which is what I wanted, but opted for the snowflake since I didn’t have a bell available).

TWENTY FOUR.
Adhere ’24′, ’twas the night’ word strip , and star gem.

Here’s how the kit comes:

The composite cut files are set up similar to the This+That kits and can be found in the PROJECT_Cut Files directory. I have it put together as I created it–in the color scheme I used. But you have total freedom to mix it up if you’d like :) The cut files are shown here in color for reference, but won’t appear that way when you open them.

countdown_cut1_0088 is 7.87″ wide
countdown_cut2_0088 is 7.5″ wide
tag_box_x3_0088 is 8.08″ wide

The composite print file looks like this and can be found in the PROJECT_Print_Files. It comes as an 8×10 file, so there shouldn’t be any issues with a photo developer accidentally changing sizes, if that’s where you’re choosing to print it..

And FYI, I didn’t save all those PNG images individually. I only saved some of the cards, music, and words that I thought might be used as a larger image in other projects.

When I get my ‘just the right’ frame, I will put it all together and share!

Teddi - November 20, 2011 - 1:26 pm

Can you cut these with the sillhouette ?

Kerri - November 20, 2011 - 1:28 pm

You sure can! There are a few file formats in the kits for the various cutters out there.
So it’s the STUDIO files you need for Silhouette. :)

Krystyn - November 21, 2011 - 12:31 pm

oh.my.goodness. This is absolutely the cutest, most fabulous advent calendar project kit-thingee I have EVER seen. I still don’t have my Cameo but I am SO buying this…maybe I’ll be able to make it in time for this year still. THANK YOU!!

Sarah - November 22, 2011 - 9:13 am

I think I might make one of these this year! I have 2 kids at home, ages 16 and 10 and think I will let them take turns opening a box. Might also teach them to get along a lil more too, I can only hope, lol.

When I was a teen, “santa” would leave small gifts on the kitchen table each morning for me and my sister. I’ve wanted to do the same for my kids, just never “got around to it”.

Thank you this might help!

Sarah - November 22, 2011 - 9:18 am

I just also thought that you could either reuse your tags on the boxes again next year OR put them in your Project Life album OR your December Daily album for next year??? Reuse, Refurbish, Save time and money…

Connie - November 22, 2011 - 10:24 am

Awesome! Can these be cut with a Cricket???

Kerri - November 22, 2011 - 10:35 am

You can use Cricut with the SVG files that are in the kit, however you have to use it with SCAL version 2 or MTC that was dated from earlier this year.
Provo Craft put the kibosh on those companies making their programs work with Cricut.

Hope that helps! :)

Carol Hinrichsen - November 23, 2011 - 9:05 am

I´m new to these… Can I print and cut with silhouette?

vera rhuhay - November 24, 2011 - 7:20 pm

OMG…I LOVE IT!!!!

LaTricia Kelly - May 23, 2012 - 7:38 am

OMG, I love this! Does the last file, the one with the Santa and backgrounds, come with a cut file, or a PNG?

Kerri - May 23, 2012 - 8:07 am

Hey LaTricia! The Santa comes in an image form–on a master sheet of all the backgrounds in PNG form. If you look down in this post, you’ll see how it’s all laid out for printing. You’ll print a candy cane background and then use that to run through your Silhouette to get the stamp image to layer the image of the Santa looking into his bag. Does that answer your question? :)

letters for santa + one day only friday freebie

Oh boy! Do we have a fun day in store for you today!

I think we shall start with the Friday Freebie!

In the spirit of the Christmas decor and gift-giving week we’ve had,
this holiday subway art will be
available as a Friday Freebie for ONE DAY ONLY!

So be sure to tell everyone you know that if they want it . . . they better get it today!

You can still get it after today for the usual $1.
But today you can spend that dollar on your Dr. Pepper. :)

[Comes in an 8x10 PNG as well as SVG/STUDIO/DXF/AIv8]

This ‘Friday Freebie’ is over. Please use the Store to purchase this for $1.

This one has a red version along with the black. The red was just so purdy and festive!
And just how fun would this be to add to your December Daily project??? Or for a Christmas gift? Hello!

And in the midst of all the Christmas hallabalu,
I thought it might be a nice surprise to make a Hanukkah version too!

[Comes in an 8x10 PNG as well as SVG/STUDIO/DXF/AIv8]

I had a wonderful reader help me with this since I’m not too familiar with the holiday.
I hope I’ve done it justice. :)

And since I was making a red version for Christmas, I just had to do a blue version for Hanukkah.

This ‘Friday Freebie’ is over. Please use the Store to purchase this for $1.

And now for some holiday goodness from the uber-talented Nichol Magouirk!

[ Shapes | On The Edge: notebook edge / Signed.Sealed.Delivered: envelope with date+circle insets /
This+That Christmas: 'dear santa' ]

Two words: a.dore.

Love how she incorporated her stampage (yeah, it’s a word)  that she’s known for.
The stamping on the vellum behind the year inset? Ya. Like that . . . a lot.
Makes it look like she bought the little ensemble just  like that. Love it.

Love the idea of keeping this forever. Put it in your December Daily. Fabulous.

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

My kids write letters to Santa every year and I always keep a copy of their letters to include in either are family albums or my December Daily Album.

This year I thought it would be fun to create a fun decorative envelope to store their letters. I love that you can customize the envelopes in the Signed. Sealed. Delivered kit by adding “cut-outs”. I used a bit of vellum behind the date (2011) on my envelope and then added some stamping with white ink for an elegant feel. I also used the On the Edge kit to give my “letter” a notebook edge, one of my favorite techniques.

I am really digging the red/cream/tan color combo for holiday this year. It gives that vintagey feel to Christmas projects that is timeless.

priscilla - November 11, 2011 - 8:07 am

Love this !!Thank you very much !!

{dawn} - November 11, 2011 - 8:24 am

subway art | thanksgiving style

I’ll be putting this in my fancy frame today!

[Comes in SVG/STUDIO/DXF/AIv8/PNG]
Price: $1

Print the PNG (like above) as is and put it in a frame.

Cut it in vinyl and put it on glass.

Print the black-text/no background version as a transparency and use it in your scrapbook.

Change the black background to a golden yellow.

Lots of possibilities.

And in case you are wondering what is ’1621′? Supposedly that’s what they consider to be the first year of the first Thanksgiving. I just had to have some numbers on there! ;)

And our family . . . well, Dan’s family, does trace back to William Bradford, who was the governor and gave the first Thanksgiving prayer. He’s like their xx-great-grandfather.

I know….ooooohh….aaaaahh…..

Karen W - November 3, 2011 - 12:18 pm

Silly question! Is this a cut out or something that can be sent to a place like Costco to print it 16 x 20?

Karen

Kerri - November 3, 2011 - 12:55 pm

Not a silly question… :) You can use it as printout or you can use it as a cut file. Although, I’d probably use it in vinyl form to where you could transfer its placement. Otherwise you’d be gluing all those letters. It’s saved as an 8×10 PNG file to print as you’d like. You could even print it on a transparency and use it as a design element.

Hope that helps! :)

Karen W - November 3, 2011 - 1:10 pm

Thanks for the quick response.

Karen

Rhadonda - November 3, 2011 - 1:23 pm

Nice! Love the transparency idea with some cool paper behind it. I have 8×10 frames i change out periodically. Love subway art. So thankful for your creativity and to be in the presence of celebrity familyhood.

december additions: the dailies

Alright boys and girls (okay, so it’s probably mostly girls ;)), we got ourselves a new set of kits a-comin’!

How many of you do the December Daily mini album
with Ali Edwards each year?

i.love.this.

Each and every year I look at what she’s makin’ and am just so danged inspired by the clean lines with that bit of character. Oddly enough, it’s right up my *ehem* ‘Ali’. (I know, bad pun.)

So when a few of y’all asked if I could make a kit that would work with it?

My wheels started turnin’.
Asked Miss Ali if it would be alright to make some cuttin’ files . . .

. . . and away I went!

I’m excited to bring you the first of a few kits in a new line called “December Additions”, which are designed with Ali’s December Daily in mind . . . but of course can be used for anything . . . like PROJECT LIFE! I love it when a kit is so universal. :)

[Comes in SVG/STUDIO/DXF/AIv8/PNG]

Price: $5

These shapes are designed to use on a ‘daily’ basis in your album. And right off the bat, you can see I have a few choices of each type of shape.

Choices people, choices!

I’m all about variety. You should all know that by now, right?

And all three number styles come in numbers 1-31. I’ve just narrowed it down on the example image due to space issues.

Here’s how some of them can work together:

Combine a “dec” with a date or use a great big number on your page. Both are really cool ideas.

Want another handy-dandy little tip?

Did you know you could turn a shape into a tag or charm? Here’s a little video to show you how using Silhouette Studio:

Okay, so I think that sums up this first kit.

Got a couple more fun ideas up my sleeve!

Can’t wait to share them!

ETA: After receiving a few requests, I’ve made a separate kit with all the month shapes made in the same fashion as December Additions: The Dailies. It’s just $2.

Here it is:

Dolly/scrapthat - October 21, 2011 - 4:34 pm

VERY very cool Kerri!! I AM doing December Daily this year…I am! I am determined to start this year. Thanks for the files to help this along! :)

Robin - October 21, 2011 - 6:13 pm

Love this! Thanks for all the work you do on these kits. Can’t wait for my Cameo to arrive so I can play!!!

Sandi Kuhlman - October 21, 2011 - 7:08 pm

Girl you rock!!!! I did my first Dec. Daily last year and plan on doing it again. It was so much fun to do and now it will be even more fun! Thanks for sharing your superb creativity! Can’t wait to see what else you have up that sleeve of yours!

CarolineD - October 21, 2011 - 7:33 pm

Awesome! And thanks for the video! I didn’t know about the align/center feature – that could come in serious handy. I’ll have to poke around up there a little more, obviously I’ve been neglecting some cool features in the software. Thanks!

Do you think that you’ll do other months with other styles of numbers? Or maybe a kit with other month names similar to the ones offered here? Love them. :)

Janet skotnicki - October 21, 2011 - 7:40 pm

LOVE this Kerri! I may just be inspired to do a mini album during December. Thank so much for taking the time to do the video. The info. Will come in handy.

cindy - October 22, 2011 - 9:29 am

Love, love, love….can’t wait to see more!

Sue Alg - October 22, 2011 - 10:38 am

Kerri, I just ordered my Cameo and can’t wait for it to arrive. I’m saving your Silhouette tips. I ordered your This & That Autumn for a printer’s tray. (Used my old Cricut) It is now displayed with my other Fall home decor items. I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on it. I’m now going to begin working on some Printer’s Trays as Christmas gifts and will be working with a variety of your kits. Thanks so much.

Rhadonda - October 24, 2011 - 8:22 am

These dailies will be so handy! Thanks tons. And i wanted to thank you for now including a preview picture in each kit. I am a little behind organizing and just noticed this feature. Love it love it!

Laura M - January 27, 2012 - 10:17 am

Hi,
I was lucky enough to get a Silhouette and my first purchase was the December Dailies (and a few of your other kits). I’m still learning the Studio software and was wondering how you separate the images from each other. So, for example, if I wanted to resize and cut the 4 in a circle it is attached to the other numbers in a circle.

I’m assuming that there’s a way to do this. Any advice or suggestions?

By the way, I love your kits and I am truly inspired by what Nichol Maguoirk does with them!

Kerri - January 27, 2012 - 11:14 am

Hey Laura! Is it just he number 4 and not the 04 you want? I think I’m a little confused. You can select something and do Ungroup (right click/Ungroup) and that can separate images, but those particular number sets are already ungrouped. That’s why I’m not sure if I’m answering correctly. If you’re wanting only the 4 and not 04, you can’t do that because it’s designed as a 04.

Let me know if that answered anything for you at all. :)

Laura M - January 27, 2012 - 11:30 am

Oh my gosh! Aren’t you the sweetest thing to respond so quicky!
I’m thinking I didn’t explain it clearly (and I’m trying to do this from memory since I’m at work). :)

Let me try to explain it again. Suppose I am using the monthly dailies and I open up the Studio file with the month of June. In the window of the Studio software it opens the 4 different fonts of “June”. And they all move together. So, what do I need to do if I only want to work with one of the font. Is there a way to separate it from the other 3? [Does that make any sense?]

Kerri - January 27, 2012 - 11:35 am

i think I get what your saying. The weird thing is, all of those shouldn’t be grouped together. They aren’t for me. So I’m a bit baffled by that. :)
At any rate, it’s Ungroup (right click/Ungroup) you want to use. That way you can move everything off the cutting area except for the one you want to use.

Let me know if that’s fer-sure what you were wanting when you get home from work and you can play with it. :)

Laura M - January 27, 2012 - 11:48 am

Thanks so much for taking the time to help me out!! I will definitely check it out when I get home and see if I’m just imagining them all moving together. If not, I’ll try to “Ungroup” them. Have a great weekend!!

Laura M - January 28, 2012 - 4:24 pm

Kerri,
I wanted to let you know that the images ARE separated when you open the files using the “open” command. I was opening them from “my library” and for some reason all the images are groupe. But they can be separated by using “ungroup” button. I hope to spend time playing with them tomorrow.
Thanks for your help! :)

Kerri - January 28, 2012 - 5:46 pm

Oh goodness gracious…you’re right! It didn’t occur to me that the program would change when you put it into the library.
Sometimes I just wanna go ‘duh’! Why didn’t I think to check that. ;)
Thanks Laura!
