hello 2013 + sale + freebie

You know, when I saw this lovely creation from Nichol–all that diecutting goodness, I thought to myself, “Is there really anything I could say to do it justice? Should I just let the photos speak for themselves?”

Well, I think I shall let you be the judge. Look closely at every little detail. It is divine.

[ ShapesHeart BackgroundstwentyTHIRTEEN (2013) / This & That: Love (tag) / XOXO (hearts) / Summer Lovin' (hello) / Picture That [Squared] (resized to 5.75″ to fit after adding photos) / This Everything (quote) / Design Team Picks (thought bubble) ]

Well? What do you think?
Wow, right?

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

Even though it’s halfway through April I’m just now getting around to creating the title page for my 2013 Project Life Album. I’m glad I waited to make the title page as I had started it a couple of times and both times it just wasn’t coming together in a way that made me happy. I switched out the more traditional Project Life sheet protector design for this one featuring 4 – 6×6 pockets and the design just fell together really quickly! I love how this quadrant style sheet protector allows for 4 “mini” style scrapbook layouts! I approached each pocket as it’s own “page”. By using similar colors and theme(s) on all 4 “pages” it creates a cohesive and well coordinated 12×12 page but each square can stand alone as well! ;)

I mixed in lots of stamping with all the die cuts used and to make the photo collage fit my design, I resized and dropped my photos in the collage as normal in my photo editing software, flattened it and THEN resized it to a 5.75″ square. Easy peasy!

To keep dimension to a minimum in my album, I am keeping things like buttons and brads and badges to a minimum but I still want to “embellish”. Ranger’s Glossy Accents is my best die cutting embellishment friend next to stamps! By adding a bit of glossy accents (on this page I added it to several of the heart accents and two of the words in the quote) and allowing it to completely dry, it gives the illusion and appearance of a dimensional sticker without the bulk! Love that!

Now, you all know how we are gearing up for National Scrapbook Day. So Nichol’s page inspired me to put the handwritten words on sale today through Thursday!

To see all the handwritten word kits, click HERE.

And  I couldn’t let another day go by without a freebie. If you’re a fan on Facebook, you know I heard this phrase on television the other night and just had to share it. Well, I just have to share it in a cuttable file too! But just like today’s sale, it’s only free through Thursday. So you’ll wanna be sure to tell your friends to come pick it up asap so that they can get it before it goes into the store for .99.

To download this file, click on the image or click HERE.

This is no longer available as a freebie, but you can buy it HERE.

I can’t believe we are half way through our week already.
And don’t even get me started on the fact that it’s May!

Fabulous LO! I love how Nichol puts a darker colored cardstock behind her cuts to create dimension and add to readability. Pure genius (and patience – I always feel “done” just doing one large cut…)! Thanks so much for sharing the LO and the inspiration phrase! Such an important thing to remember!

Thanks for this free quote, Kerri! I so agree with you—how did it get to be May already? The older I get, the faster time goes… Not good!

more easter goodness

We are on an Easter roll here this week so far! More springtime fabulousness from our darling Miss Nichol!

[ ShapesThis+That: Spring (chick) / Bloom ("easter", "eggs") / Design Team Picks (thought bubble) / Life Additions #2 (file folder) ]

Oooooh, the layers…the layers…and the layers. Always scrumptious!
love.

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

One of my favorite die-cutting techniques is to use multiple shapes on one page to create maximum effect. I die cut 11 file folders from different patterned papers and then embellished each almost as an individual “page” and then adhered them to my page background. I intentionally left one space “empty” and instead added a grouping of a cute die cut chick, thought bubble and words for the title.

Linda Sweeney - April 18, 2013 - 8:59 am

Nichol is always so creative! I love it when she shares that creativeness with us!

Cara - April 18, 2013 - 1:02 pm

Super cute!

the first day of april

I can hardly believe it. I know I say this all the time, but seriously, where does the time go??? Only two more months left of my baby being in high school. That’s just crazy!

April. We’re at April already!

I gotta figure out how to make time slow down. If it can speed up, surely we can slow it down–just a little. Right?

I can only imagine that must be what Nichol was thinking when she created this page of her cute little daughter–who isn’t so little anymore!

[ Shapes | Educationish (number square) / Label It (frame) / Here Kitty, Kitty (title) / Sunflower Freebie ]

I love how Nichol used the numbers within her blocks! That’s such a wonderful look. And using the labels as a frame too? adore.

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

I loved the title from the Here Kitty kit and thought that it would work for subjects other than pets when I came across these older photos of my daughter being a messy eater. I wanted to use a bunch of photos from the pre-digital era so I ended up cropping them. A couple of the photos I wanted to use were from a previous layout created years ago and to make them work with the new design, I resized the label frame to fit over the photo. So that I wouldn’t have to cut around these already small photos I also cut the frame from a 3×3 square of patterned paper, popped the small square photo behind it, then layered the frame shadow and frame on top. Easy peasy!

For all the areas on the “border” of this page that didn’t have a photo, I used 3×3 squares of patterned paper. To add interest I die cut the numbers square from the same colors of patterned paper and from solid cardstock and adhered them on top of each. It gives subtle texture and adds interest to the frame without overpowering the photos. :)

And now, some sad news. After 2 1/2 years of an amazing ride, I’ve decided to close my doors, so to speak. I appreciate all your support and wish you all the best!

Okay, I just had to do that. I haven’t done an April Fools joke in forever. Don’t worry, all is alive and kicking in Bradford World. :)

Dolly - April 1, 2013 - 6:21 am

Man that was just plain SCARY! I think my heart skipped-not a good way to start the morning! Whew! off to work on some relaxation techniques!

{dawn} howells - April 1, 2013 - 7:27 am

“Pretty sneaky, sis!” (Remember that from the old Battleship game commercial?…) Anyway, you almost had me… Because it is very early Monday morning (why are you up so early??:)), and I am still recovering from all of the baking and cooking over the weekend, your “prank” left me a bit confused. So glad it was only a prank – we need you around, Kerri!

Thanks for sharing the beautiful Nichol layout!

a saturday night surprise

Yeah, so my office is pretty much gone right now. Okay, so maybe it’s not necessarily ‘gone’ since all that stuff is now in the middle of my front room. But you know what I mean. And  I sent off my old desk to my sister’s house–found it a new home. So it’s looking pretty empty right now. Oh, and there are carpet samples that I keep flopping around at the various times of the day. Lighting changes and all. Gotta make sure it goes. So excited to get rid of the ugly dark brown carpet.

Feeling a little lost without my big mama Mac. Luckily I do have a laptop that can help me bide my time.

So I went out to dinner with my hubby, just got back from taking the dog for a walk, and I’m finally taking a moment to relax in my bedroom this evening, and I have my laptop . . . well, in my lap, and I’m listening to the last part of Sherlock Holmes. SI I thought it might be fun to take this moment and suprise you all with a page this fine Saturday evening from our darling Miss Nichol.

[ Shapes | Need Directions? ("love it" phrase) / Here Kitty Kitty ("meow", paw prints, kitty) / XOXO (hearts) / Life Additions #2 (file folder card) / Freebie Negative Frame ]

Nichol has such an amazing way of including so many details. You literally have to pour over her pages to see what she’s done. And all together, it’s just a masterpiece.

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

Here lately I am addicted to using negative frame die cuts on my pages, especially for framing up older photos (pre-digital days!). The ability to resize them to suit my specific photo/layout needs makes them an ideal way of emphasizing the photos, even when they aren’t the best quality of photos. This free file Kerri put up ages ago continues to be one of my all-time favorites! The original has a die cut “u.” along the bottom (wider) edge and one of the frames has the phrase “love this” along one edge. With just a tiny bit of manipulating I ungrouped the image, then removed the letter “u”. I duplicated the plain cut out frame and replaced the frame with the phrase with the plain one. Then regrouped the image for a bit more “plain jane” negative strip! To customize these even further, I added one of Kerri’s more recent designs “love it” from her Need Directions kit to the bottom of one of the filmstrips.

Instead of die cutting the paw prints and adhering them on top of the layout I chose to die cut them from my background paper instead and pop a contrasting paper behind. Makes it much easier than trying to piece the paw prints back together. :)
Ruth G - March 2, 2013 - 9:00 pm

Kerri, thanks so much for sharing this! Not only did it make my hubby, daughter and I giggle (LOL poor kittens!) but it reminded me of a fundamentally positive aspect of using negative space from die cuts – not having to piece images or letters! I hope you have a wonderful evening and hopefully I’ll remember the power of being negative on a LO very soon!

Sandra - March 3, 2013 - 1:17 am

What a stunning page! What a great idea to turn the strips and lay them over each other. Lovely.

Michelle Liimatainen - March 3, 2013 - 8:08 am

Nicole is AMAZING. This layout is phenomenal and I LOVE how she brings older photos to life in a new and inspiring way. Just adore her pages and her.

Tanya - March 5, 2013 - 5:01 am

You hit the nail on the head, exactly how I feel about Nichol’s layouts – so many details to pour over. I am literally brought to TEARS at how beautiful her work is!!! I would LOVE to have just a smidge of her creativity and vision … I try so hard to layer how she does, and it never looks right to me. I am in AWE yet again of such a gorgeous layout!!! :) Thanks for sharing!

happy valentine’s day!

Just thought I’d share this ‘homemade’ card with y’all
to wish you a wonderful day full of love!

[ photo taken at my hairstylist's wedding reception. ]

And here’s another fabulous Valentine decoration from our loverly Miss Nichol!

oooooh la la!

[ Shapes | InTransit ]

This is an amazing idea!

love.

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

I love Kerri’s subway art cut files and wanted to use one to create a decorated frame for Valentine’s Day but I wanted to be able to customize each of the words or phrases on the die cut with a background stamp and colorful ink pads for a fun, “conversation heart” rainbow of colors. To achieve the look, I die cut the subway art file from smooth white cardstock. Then, before removing it from the cutting mat, I masked off the parts of the image I didn’t want to ink and stamped each word/phrase with a different color of Hero Arts Mid-Tone Ink for a customized colorful die cut title! By using the same background stamp throughout the design and only changing the color of the ink, it kept the title from being overly busy or hard to read and instead just added color!

To finish the design I used a manual die cutting machine to die cut an exclusive Simon Says Stamp heart design and stamped each with coordinating heart stamps.

Happy Day of Love…. :)

all dressed up for valentine’s day

That little Nichol. She’s been a busy girl! She asked if I would make her some feathers and of course I obliged. I knew what she was going to do with them. I just had no idea how FABULOUS it would be!!!

Okay, wait…I’m talkin’ about Nichol, right? Of course, it would be fabulous!

Check it out….this is what Nichol has to say….

I have had this wire dressform for years and I’ve used it in my home decorating “as is”. An idea came to me as I was perusing Pinterest and saw a dressform altered and decorated with old vintage book paper…. I thought how awesome it would be to create something of my own using my dressform. All I needed was the perfect die cut shape. Feathers immediately came to mind. We’re seeing them everywhere in the industry from pre-made embellishments to stamps and wood veneer shapes.

I asked Kerri if she would make me a feather die cut and she not only made one, but FOUR incredible, wonderful feathers to work with! I die cut them from several sheets of 12×12 patterned paper to give me an assortment and variety of patterns to work with and got to work creating a skirt of feathers for my dressform.

It was important to me that I be able to remove the decorations after the holiday is over without harming the dressform so I came up with the following idea for constructing the skirt. I used a piece of ribbon and glued feathers to the ribbon fairly close together using liquid glue. I applied a line of glue to the feathers and added another layer of feathers and repeated until I had a skirt to fit my dressform (see photo below).

I die cut several florals, a merchandise tag, heart banners and a heart to complete my dressform. I used dimensional embellishments from my stash to “dress up” the design. I love the way the variety of dimensional and textural flowers add visual interest to the completed project.

All I can say is…..WOW!!!!!

cindy - February 5, 2013 - 9:05 pm

Oh my……….I’m speechless! Where DOES Nichol come up with such clever ideas? Seriously!! Love the Valentine projects. TFS.

love is in the air

Valentine’s Day.

Less than a month away.

Can you believe it? I’m just looking forward to some warmer temperatures. This constant below freezing–and below zero–is for the birds. Oh wait…those birds get to fly south…what am I talking about? Lucky ‘ducks.’

Some of you may be thinking about creating some new lovey-dovey works of art to help set the mood in your home. And if you’re like me, you’re gonna wanna make exactly these fabulous framed pieces of love like Nichol made.

Here’s what she has to say:
I’ve been working on adding some new additions to the Valentine decor of our home. I replaced the glass/photos in these distressed wood frames with photo-sized inserts for the holiday. One of the best ways to get multiples in the colors you need for a project (like the first frame shown here) is to use your die cut machine. I was able to use up paper scraps from other projects to cut the hearts and cut all the tags from one sheet of 8.5×11 cardstock. The tags were customized by incorporating the shape from the “XOXO” kit with the tag hole from another kit. You could also just create a circle shape in the Silhouette software instead. I just had both files open, figuring out what tag shape I wanted to use so I created mine this way! ;)

[ Shapes | XOXO (tag+heart) / December Additions: The Extras (tag hole)

And here's what she's a-sayin' about this one:

I cut a heart shape and attached all the die cut flowers to the heart with tiny, tiny brads. I layered the stamped & embossed banner across the heart with foam adhesive and trimmed off the excess before placing it inside the frame.

[ Shapes | XOXO (heart) / This+That: Family (flower) / This+That: Freedom (banner)

And this one:

I really wanted to incorporate a Hero Arts clock stamp in my stash into a Valentine's frame. I was perusing my KBS shapes and came across the clock hands file and it dawned on me how cute the stamped shape would look with the die cut hands layered on top! I love that you can recreate this same idea with any clock stamp you may have by simply changing the size of your clock hands to fit! So fun! The eiffel tower and heart die cuts tie the design together. I needed a banner to stamp the definition on so I just grabbed one of the KBS shapes from a recent file and resized it to accommodate the stamp design.

[ Shapes | This+That: Love (eiffel tower) / This+That: Halloween (clock hands) / XOXO (hearts) / Letters to Santa (banner) ]

sooooo love.
that about says it all.

thank you miss nichol.

Rhadonda - January 18, 2013 - 11:01 am

Wow, totally gorgeous. How does she find time to do all of this?

Cindy - January 18, 2013 - 7:11 pm

Wow………..that Ms. Nichol is something else! I wish I had an nth of her talent. (I kept missing that capcha and had to do this 3 times – HA!)

Tammy - January 18, 2013 - 8:23 pm

Such a cute project. I really liked all three but my favorite was the first with all the tags and hearts. Good job. TFS

Merry Christmas to all….

Well, it’s Christmas Eve day in a good chunk of the world today.

And something that seems somewhat of a rarity ’round these parts at Christmas time has taken a turn for the good today . . . that would be SNOW! Big ol’ white fluffy flakes of wintery goodness.

Seems like we haven’t had much of it on Christmas and today it’s just a-dumpin’!

Been out driving in it too and it’s been absolutely glorious!

Kept saying to my hubby, ”I’m so happy!”

I’m tellin’ ya, it’s been rare to get a snow storm on Christmas . . . the one day your really want it.

So now I leave you to enjoy your holidays with this page from Nichol. With Santa coming tonight and all, I thought it a very fitting page to share on this Christmas Eve day.

[ ShapesLetters To Santa (mailbox & title) / Star Background (12×12) / PenguinA Dog’s Life (fire hydrant) / This & That: Winter (sled, stocking hat, envelope) / December Addtions: The Extras (Santa envelope) / This & That: Christmas (Santa hat, stack of gifts) / Christmas Countdown (bird) / Here Comes Santa Claus (hanging star) / Snapshots #1 (photo strip)

Oh my gosh! How stinkin’ cute is this???
Eye candy, I tell ya! Eye candy!

I wanna know where this girl’s mind goes at night.
She must have visions of storybooks dancing in her heads or somethin’.

Then penguins and the hats are killin’ me!

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

I thought it would be fun to cut multiple penguins (one to represent each of my kids) and create a die cut scene of the penguins taking their letters to Santa to the mailbox! I included the awesome new star background to add interest to my page. The envelope pocket was perfect for including my children’s letters to santa. I’m able to “hide” them but still access them at some point. It will be fun to look back at these someday!

I’ll be checking back in with you later in the week.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas,
Happy Hanukkah and all that good stuff!
