I’ve been wanting to use the cute little polaroid frame from Kerri’s new Sliders kit, and thought they would work nicely with these photos of one of my daycare kiddos. I chose the “Seriously?” title (a Design Team Pick), because I am constantly saying “Seriously Devon?” to him. If he’s not in my arms, or I am not within two feet of him, he screams and cries. I’ve been watching the little dude for over six months now, and it hasn’t changed. So it deserves a “Seriously???” at this point. Lol. While I usually love to have lots of dimension and texture on my layouts and love to mix in embellishments, every now and then it’s kind of nice to do a simple paper layout without all of the bulk.

It’s crazy. No more kids in school. College, yes. But the weekly school and activities? Done.

As I began putting my PL spread together, I needed to rearrange certain elements and I left out a couple of die cuts as well but the overall look is basically what I imagined right in the software!

Wowza! Talk about some eye candy! Love how she used so many of the Sliders and file folders on this. Fabulous look!

I was recently asked to put together an album for a graduating senior as a gift from her parents. There were a few reasons that I couldn’t say “no” to taking on this big project. This senior went to the same high school that my daughter Alyssa goes too. Alyssa and this senior played on the varsity soccer team together this year. And this senior’s dad had saved all of the newspaper clippings from her high school sports years and wanted to do something special with them, and I think that is pretty cool! This album is almost all newspaper clippings, with the exception of a few photos from “Senior Night” at the last soccer game of the year. This album is also ALL cardstock and patterned paper. No embellishments or bulky items of any kind.

I started this album by organizing all of the clippings by year and putting them in order date wise, and then adhering them to my background papers. I then went through all of Kerri’s kits, as well as my Silhouette library, pulling out any shapes, words, and phrases that I thought would fit in with the sports theme. Kerri’s new Weathered Door Alphabet kit came at just the right time, as I was short on sports words and had planned on creating my own. I just love the chunkier font and slightly distressed look of the Weathered Door Alphas, and they have just the right look for the sports pages. After collecting an assortment of shapes, I went page by page and choose words and phrases that fit in the space I had on that particular page. I filled in the rest of the empty spots with cut soccer balls, volleyballs, and a variety of stars. I don’t think I have ever cut this many pieces for any project and I truly gave my Cameo a workout. But once this graduating senior and her parents saw the completed album, I knew it was all worth it.

[ Shapes | This+That: Lucky (title) / You Are Here ]

I love how she used the brand new ‘You Are Here’ in a sort of block form on the layout! It looks awesome!

Here’s what she has to say:

The ‘You Are Here’ symbol is so iconic – it’s amazing how something created not long ago to show people where they were on a map has now evolved into something instantly recognizable by the majority of the population, especially scrapbookers!  I was so happy to see Kerri create one for us to play with :)

Rather than use it in it’s traditional sense, I thought it would be fun to use it to draw attention to the fact that my youngest son was sandwiched between two of his (kissing) (girl) friends!  I tied my journaling in with the symbol –  ‘Sam – judging by the looks of things, ‘here’ was a pretty darn good place for you to be!’  In addition to the ‘you are here’ file, I also used the word ‘lucky’ from the This+That Lucky  kit along with some letter stickers to create the title ‘Lucky Duck’.   I don’t know about you, but HE sure looks like a lucky duck to me :)

Well, I think I shall let you be the judge. Look closely at every little detail. It is divine.

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

Even though it’s halfway through April I’m just now getting around to creating the title page for my 2013 Project Life Album. I’m glad I waited to make the title page as I had started it a couple of times and both times it just wasn’t coming together in a way that made me happy. I switched out the more traditional Project Life sheet protector design for this one featuring 4 – 6×6 pockets and the design just fell together really quickly! I love how this quadrant style sheet protector allows for 4 “mini” style scrapbook layouts! I approached each pocket as it’s own “page”. By using similar colors and theme(s) on all 4 “pages” it creates a cohesive and well coordinated 12×12 page but each square can stand alone as well! ;)

To keep dimension to a minimum in my album, I am keeping things like buttons and brads and badges to a minimum but I still want to “embellish”. Ranger’s Glossy Accents is my best die cutting embellishment friend next to stamps! By adding a bit of glossy accents (on this page I added it to several of the heart accents and two of the words in the quote) and allowing it to completely dry, it gives the illusion and appearance of a dimensional sticker without the bulk! Love that!

I just LOVED “Say What #4″ the minute the email from Kerri popped into my inbox – so much so that I used not 1, but 2 titles from the kit in this layout!  I love the mix of cursive and print in the ‘that’s kind of cool’ hexagon – the mix adds so much visual interest to the hexagon shape.  I first cut the ‘Love This’ title from red patterned paper, then cut the background piece again from yellow chevron patterned paper to really make the title pop off the page.  I love it that Kerri thinks of those fun little details like including the title separate from the background piece – things like that make working with her kits so easy.

Here’s what Nichol has to say: 

 One of my favorite die-cutting techniques is to use multiple shapes on one page to create maximum effect. I die cut 11 file folders from different patterned papers and then embellished each almost as an individual “page” and then adhered them to my page background. I intentionally left one space “empty” and instead added a grouping of a cute die cut chick, thought bubble and words for the title. 

Well, just like Jordan, Naomi has made something modern looking using something vintage–a photo of her and her brother at Easter in 1985.

 I love all the mix of shapes she used here….all the layers and such…they all look fabulous together!

Now Naomi…we will never be vintage…and we’ll keep telling ourselves that. Okay, maybe when I’m 80 I’ll call myself vintage. ;)

April. We’re at April already!

I gotta figure out how to make time slow down. If it can speed up, surely we can slow it down–just a little. Right?

I can only imagine that must be what Nichol was thinking when she created this page of her cute little daughter–who isn’t so little anymore!

I love how Nichol used the numbers within her blocks! That’s such a wonderful look. And using the labels as a frame too? adore.

Here’s what Nichol has to say:

I loved the title from the Here Kitty kit and thought that it would work for subjects other than pets when I came across these older photos of my daughter being a messy eater. I wanted to use a bunch of photos from the pre-digital era so I ended up cropping them. A couple of the photos I wanted to use were from a previous layout created years ago and to make them work with the new design, I resized the label frame to fit over the photo. So that I wouldn’t have to cut around these already small photos I also cut the frame from a 3×3 square of patterned paper, popped the small square photo behind it, then layered the frame shadow and frame on top. Easy peasy!

For all the areas on the “border” of this page that didn’t have a photo, I used 3×3 squares of patterned paper. To add interest I die cut the numbers square from the same colors of patterned paper and from solid cardstock and adhered them on top of each. It gives subtle texture and adds interest to the frame without overpowering the photos. :)
