Look what I did on this page!
Ummmm . . . it’s been a while since that’s happened . . . quite a while. :)

Go check it out!

Oh, and I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your comments on the kitty. He (HE–we figured it out) has been lots of fun. And Anne-Liesse, you’re my new best friend. Any Bugs Bunny lover is a friend of mine. ;)

congratulatoins on your first year zach!

April 21st, 2010|zach: mission|

First off, just wanted to say thank you for all your kind words about my pages. It was fun making some like that again. You guys are awesome! Sorry I’ve been absent of late.

So, it may be April 1st but there’s no foolin’, Zach has been on his mission for one whole year as of today. I can’t believe just how fast time has gone! It’s gone by fast for him too. Yesterday as we were e-mailing each other, I asked him if he was glad he went. He said he’s loving it. He loves living in DC. He loves that he sees a side of DC that not very many people get to see. He loves the West African people and culture. He’s having a great time being of service.

He’s definitely growing.

So he sent us some picture a couple weeks ago . . . finally! Thought I’d share some highlights.
The Washington DC Temple
…at Christmas time.

Having a bit of fun in ALL that snow!
So I thought he was really in waist-high snow. Turns out he’s on his knees. They thought it would be funny to make it look like it was that deep.
Golfing? In winter?? Who gets to go find the WHITE golf balls in the snow? Oh yeah, and that’s my boy . . . in shorts in the winter.
I don’t know how Zach convinced three other guys to get up so early on a cold December morning to go take pictures at the National Mall!

Can you see the chopper? That’s probably the Pres getting a ride somewhere.

 Zach and his companion.
I love this one!

And speaking of food, check out all this African food. The top row is from Thanksgiving dinner and the bottom row is dinner at a member’s house.

Let’s hope next year goes just as fast as this one!

I still need to share some photos of Jordan’s play too. They did so well!

i guess–as my daughter put it–hell froze over

Look what we have in our house right now.

Yep. A kitty. Yeah, not in the plan. When we went to the farm, my nieces had gone up a couple days before. They went to Sears and some lady was giving away kittens. They thought that the farm needed some mousers and brought home three cats–one for one niece to keep, one for the other niece to “raise” at her house until it could go up to the farm and one for us–so we were told. Well, Dan isn’t too keen on being told what to do–especially when it comes to an anilmal. ;) Of course he said no. Don’t blame him either. It was awfully presumptuous for them to think we’d take a cat when we’d never had one. But oddly enough, when the one niece brought it home to her husband, he said no too! lol We did have fun with them on the farm, they are potty trained even.
Anyway, so my sister wound up with both cats at her house. Their cat loves them dearly…not. lol Oh and their names are Sam and George–the wolf and sheepdog from Bugs Bunny. So we came home Saturday and I went over to do taxes last Thursday. I had my niece’s cat (came down for a “play date”) all cuddled with me. That night I asked dad if we could bring Sam home–that was the one assigned to us. So here it is, playing at my feet with a string I’ve got hanging from my desk–trying to keep it away from my feet because it has the sharpest claws! Super friendly kitty. Very lovable. In fact, it loves to take a nap all cuddled with us and we’ll bring it up on my bed to watch tv with us (me and the girls or Dan) and it’ll come up by us, plop down, make a little mew, and stretch it’s body all the way out–paws over head with bottom legs outstretched as far as it can go (almost curving backwards)–and roll over so you can rub its belly. What cat does that? Sleeps that way too! Not all the time, but a lot. And yesterday it had its body on the bed and flopped its top half up over Kass’ leg sideways and slept that way. So weird.

Anyway, the purpose is to raise it for the farm. We keep taking it outside to get used to it, but uhhhhh…it gets scared at the cars passing by. We took it over to the neighbor’s yesterday afternoon and the boys were having fun chasing it around. Not sure how the cat liked it. lol Definitely out of the cat’s comfort zone. It barely goes past our chairs that we have on the lawn. Likes the flower bed area. We kind of baby it. It’s fun to have something cuddly.

Oh, and we were told it’s a boy, but a couple days ago we were looking and we’re like, I think it’s a girl! So we keep calling it he or she or it. lol

So there ya go . . . after never having a pet (do fish and hermit crabs count?) for our entire married life, we are now a cat owner.

what’s old is new again

I’m a jewelry junky.

I admit it.

I’ve had a “serious” problem with it in the past, however, in the essence of saving money–or rather–not having the excess to spend like usual (lol), I’ve stayed away from the shopping malls, the boutiques, and the QVCs of the world.

As an alternative, I’m pulling out earrings that I’ve had for a long time–favorites that haven’t been worn for a while. I’m polishing them up and wearing them again. It’s been a lot of fun! Some jewelry has a story–got this from Mexico, got that from Ireland, made three other pair of earrings ‘just like that’ for my friends.

But wait, it gets better.

Dan was looking for something in the garage and found a little bin of jewelry that I had growing up as well as some 80s jewelry. You know what I’m talkin’ about. Big chunky silver stuff, right?

My daughters LOVED going through it! Kass isn’t as big into jewelry as Jordan and will wear something on occasion. But Jordan is my retro girl and loves anything from “a long time ago”.

Does that mean I’m vintage?

Gosh, I hope not!

But in addition to the jewelry, I had to get my computer fixed. Came home from a weekend trip to Idaho last Saturday night and it wouldn’t turn on . . . no matter how many times I waved my magic fingers at it, pleading with it to turn on . . . the curse-ed thing wouldn’t budge.

Luckily a guy I work with thought it might be one of two things. And luckily it was the cheaper of two evils. I had to buy a new power supply and he put it in for me. Good. Only a $30 fix and my computer is as good as new again. Better back it up though because it’s been a month.

But this is the most glorious thing of all . . . MY LAPTOP IS WORKING AGAIN!!! A couple years ago it crashed–speaking of not backing up. Since CompUSA–where I bought my laptop AND warranty–went out of business, I didn’t want to send it off to get repaired and lose the hard drive in it (they said they keep it).

So there it sat.

And sat.

And sat.

Until one day I bought a new hard drive and asked our resident guru neighbor if he could help.

And I got it back yesterday.

My pal.

My friend.

We’ve been through many a things together.

It’s traveled with me all over the world–Scotland, Amsterdam, Mexico, Hawaii (just to name a few).

It’s provided hours of entertainment in the car before we had a dvd player.

I’ve spent many many hours on that thing creating art for my Cricut cartridges, sitting at the kitchen table away from the kids in the living room during summer vacation.

I’ve missed it terribly.

I’m excited to be mobile again and not be glued to my little corner of the world all the time.

still here

Just taking it a little easy during this spring break. I say that relatively as I’ve been cleaning as well as working part of the time.

Got a good chunk of Zach’s room done over the weekend. Listened to conference while working on it Saturday.

Funny that some of you had the same kind of plans as me last weekend too. :)

Cleaned my side of the bedroom up. The “collect-all” dresser is almost clean too.

The girls have been overhauling their rooms.

Now we need to work on the rest of the house.

Did a little spring shopping with the girls. An alternative to Easter candy.

Took the girls to see a local–and clean–production of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels last night with my buddy Kristy Banks and her son Jory. Lisa (Bearnson) had seen it twice already. One of the customer support guy’s at work, Darick Pead, played the Steve Martin role and was absolutely hilarious! We were all laughing quite hard. Lisa had seen him perform the first time, found out that it was someone I knew and knew which nights he performed, and made sure she went back to see him again because, as she said, “he made the show.”

Going to see Alice in Wonderland today.

Taxes. (ugh!)

More cleaning.

Tomorrow I get my hair done. Yahoo! Too much grey showing right now.

Just mixing business with pleasure all this week, you might say.

Trying to stay away from the computer with the exception of when I’m working.

Feeling lighter (but not weight-wise–dang it) than I have in a very long time.

Feels good.

Feels rejuvenating.

Still need to share Jordan’s OK pictures . . . but here’s one in the interim. This is her and “Curly” and “Judd
Frye”–the two boys fightin’ over “Laurey”.

i must be weird

April 2nd, 2010|Uncategorized|

So we actually have today off from work for Good Friday. Our parent company is based in California and this is a holiday they chose to allow their workers to take time off for. Having been working like crazy lately (never seems to stop, does it), I can’t tell you how excited I am to have this day off . . . and I’m not even going to work on it either! lol And next week is spring break, my girls are out of school all week, I’ve taken a little bit of time off during the week, and I can’t tell you just how excited I am . . . and I’m not even going anywhere!
What on earth would I take time off for?

Well, first and foremost, I want to be able to spend some time with my girls while they are home all week–especially since this is my senior’s last spring break. Maybe go see Alice in Wonderland, go out to lunch, we’re going to see a play where one of my co-workers is one of the leads . . .

. . . but also . . .

and this is where it gets weird . . .

I know, crazy right? But it’s been so neglected. Today I start by cleaning Zach’s room . . . the dungeon, if you will. It’s the “down-down” (stairs) of the house and has also become the dumping ground for many a-things. That’s my project this weekend. He’s been gone a year and we haven’t touched it since he left. Kind of that whole “out of sight, out of mind” thing. No one goes down there unless they need something from the storage room. My husband was having a panic attack that we’d never get it done until the day before Zach comes home. lol

All day yesterday I just had this peaceful feeling. A “lightness” of sorts. Excited. Nothing weighing on my shoulders. I haven’t felt that in a very long time.
Felt good.

Spring is “around” . . . may not be here at the moment, but I have seen it a day or two.

Everything is feeling fresh and I need my house to match that.

Can’t wait to get organized and clean everything up.

It’s been a long time coming.

And don’t you just love to dwell in the one room that’s clean? Makes a person feel all-so happy, eh?
So, I know I’m not alone. What quirky things make you happy? :)
