I’m not a big shoe buyer. I know a lot of girls are, but I tend to buy what may be cute and stylish and most importantly, comfortable, and wear that 90% of the time. I take my shoes off at the door and so it may be that I often wear the same shoe more out of laziness. ;)
Although, to take a look at my closet, you’d think I frequently bought shoes. In actuality, it’s years and years of shoes. I have gotten better about discarding them though. The pile is thinning.
But each summer I go on a quest for a fun summer sandal. And I am picky. It can’t be high, because that’s too much of a pain. Remember, I did say comfortable. I don’t like showing off too much of my feet down by my toes, so tiny straps are out. And straps that go around the back of my foot so I just can’t slip them on? Forget about it. (hello…I said I was lazy!) And generally speaking, they should be black, because let’s face it, most of my summer wardrobe consists of the Eddie Bauer black tee (I won’t say how many).
So as you can see, it’s not always easy finding a pair of sandals that are me.
There are a couple things that I do love about the shoe industry, and one of them is the Born line. I owned a pair of clogs or slip-ons that were my all-time favorite. I think I wore them three years–constantly (excluding summer). They held up so well and I loved them dearly. They are worth the extra money you pay for them in both comfort and longevity.
So when I went on my yearly summer sandal quest, it only made sense for me to look on born.com–it was January, after all…no sandals to be found in the stores. I guess you could say I started early this year. ;) I saw some really cute ones out there and there was one pair I was particularly fond of. But they were $80+.
Now remember, I don’t mind paying extra for a good quality shoe, but that seemed a little much for a sandal where there’s not a whole lottta leather to begin with.
So I admired from afar, looking at them from time to time….wishing….dreaming….almost pressing Buy.
And then in March I went to HSN in Tampa with Lisa. We needed to go to Target for an article of clothing and right next to it was a TJ Maxx. I have to tell you, the TJ Maxx by my house is awful. I don’t even know if I go into it once a year because any time I do, I wonder why in the heck I went in, so I just gave up on it.
Instead of going into Target, we hit the TJ Maxx. I went in there with major reservations and came out having had the best shopping experience I ever had. Lisa could tell you, all I could say was, ‘I’m so happy!’ I found the perfect yellow bag (and so did she), two cute lacy tank tops (and so did she), a pair of Guess sunglasses, and some silver earrings………and my Born sandals–for $39,99. One pair. My size. It was kismet.
And here they are:
I love them. They don’t show off too much of my foot by my toes, they are black, low-profile, slip-on, has a cute little flower….I couldn’t be happier.
And as part of my summer happiness, I am also frequenting the pedi. Although I thought I was getting more of a bronze color than shiny new penny. I’m usually a dark burgundy girl, but ventured out. Won’t do that again. ;)
As you may (or may not) be able to tell, I actually used Instagram to filterize the photo. And yes, I shared it on Instagram too. Shocker. More of my venturing out of my little box. I had to pick a filter that didn’t truly show how *ehem* pigmently challenged I am.
And I just need to add that this post is brought to you by the people at The Phone Photography Project. I’d been wanting to show off some of those fun TJ Maxx scores, but never got around to it. Their challenge yesterday spurred me to take a photo and then actually write about it. I think I’m going to do a whole page or something on my feet this summer. We’ll see if I actually do it and how it turns out.
We’re only on Day 2 in the class and I’m loving it! Love that I get tips and tricks by people like me in this industry rather than the techies out there. Love to see what my favorite people are using for their smartphone and to see what challenges they’ll present to help me have more fun documenting the everyday.
If you’re interested in taking the class, you still have until July 10 to jump in….the water’s fine. ;)
