giveaway and an iphoto ooh+aah moment

First off, I just want to thank everyone for the birthday wishes! I had a very nice, relaxing and scenic day. Which brings me to today’s post.

We got one of these goin’ on . . .

Where in the world is Kerri Bradford

Hubby and I took a little trip away for our birthdays. We’d almost planned a trip for New England in the fall, but then chose wisely and decided we needed to tuck that money away for Jordan to go on her mission. So we went some place within driving distance of our home in Utah (but may or may not be in Utah). You may have seen this photo on Facebook the other day:

That would be clue #1.

And here is clue #2.

And clue #3 actually is a little ooh+aah moment with the iPhone.

How many of you know about the HDR feature on your camera?
Have you ever played with it?

I have before, but I turned it off because…well…I don’t remember why.

But I decided to turn it on for this trip.
Lots of lights and shadows and risking losing one for the other–
either too washed out or too dark.

But look what happens when you turn on the HDR feature.

I did not edit either of those photos.
They are straight out of my iPhone.
I took just one picture and the phone created both
a normal one and an HDR one at the same time.

I was amazed at just how much color the HDR creates!

If you’re not familiar with HDR, it stands for High Dynamic Range. And basically, the camera takes a photo at 2 stops below, right in the center and 2 stops above, puts it all together and assesses the best photo possible, taking into account anything that may have normally been too dark or too washed out.

The result is amazing!

Give it a try. You might just be wowed by what you take!

So, now that you have three clues, here’s the contest for ya!

Leave a comment with your guess, like this post on Facebook,
and I’ll draw the closest winner on Thursday
and they will receive a $20 shopping spree!

You know I am in Canada and I have never been to UT so if I’m not even close…don’t laugh! LOL
First I was going to say Capital Reef Utah and then I decided on
Fifth Water Hot Springs in Diamond Fork Canyon.
The more I look at places in Utah I could guess all day How about Odgen? it looks like the city in the last picture sort of.
    Okay…lost in Utah…

  4. Dana September 17, 2013 at 7:42 am

    I’m thinking Flagstaff Arizona

  6. justasiam September 17, 2013 at 8:14 am

I am not from anywhere near there, so I am taking a wild stab in the dark guess…but I also think it is in Wyoming…so I am going to say Jackson Hole also.

  7. Penne Beckett September 17, 2013 at 8:36 am

    I have to say wyoming!

  11. Rhadonda September 17, 2013 at 9:21 am

I had to get my US map out, duh…. I am going to guess somewhere in Idaho, maybe Grand Tetons or Idaho Falls. I tried to find an HDR setting on my android phone but no luck. Must be an iphone thing. Looks great though!

  12. Nashonne September 17, 2013 at 9:31 am

My guess is somewhere in Idaho.

  17. Cathy Doerr September 17, 2013 at 12:45 pm

I have no idea, but it looks beautiful. I was going to take a wild guess and say Truckee, CA, (or is Truckee, NV?) but judging from other comments, I may be way off. So my official guess will be Cody, WY.

  18. Laura K September 17, 2013 at 1:18 pm

Well those mountains sure look like the Tetons to me so I am going to say Wyoming. Maybe Jackson Hole? Looks like it was beautiful anyway! Thank you for the chance to win.

  19. Tammy Davis September 17, 2013 at 1:39 pm

I’m going with Wyoming. Possibly Grand Teton NP? I can’t wait to try HDR now.

  22. Lisa Haines September 17, 2013 at 3:47 pm

Since I have only been on the East Coast (a New England Gal) and out to Cali on twice, (both by plane)….I have never ever had the chance to be anywhere near Utah, but it sure looks pretty!

However, my son and daughter in law made an amazing trip across country last year to their new home in San Diego (why I’ve been to Cali), and one of the places they loved was MOAB, so that’s my guess!

I have never in my life seen a highway that long where you can see for such a distance…let alone be on any highway without lots of other cars…what a site!! I live in a tiny coastal town in Northeastern Massachusetts! Maybe some day I get to visit more of our amazing USA! When Bri and Meg took their trip they saw the country like most people never have the chance to do..they drove and saw so many awesome places on their wonderful three week trip!

Hope you loved every minute…looks FUN!!

  23. Beccy September 17, 2013 at 4:14 pm

    I’d say Park City

  24. Candy Bryant September 17, 2013 at 4:51 pm

You are near a river in the forest!!!
I’ve already cried my eyes out today. My *^#)(*!@# Direct Tv did not record my 24 HSN craft day after 10 pm. I spent 30 minutes on the phone, I got my channel on, it was the only one not working and it worked on the other tv’s in the house! So I’m just out of luck and when I went to many things were sold out. So thankful I got those overlays early. That’s it for my rant today! Love you, Kerri, hope you’re celebrating lasts all week. Hugs & Aloha.

  25. Charlene White September 17, 2013 at 5:57 pm

I think you are in Jackson Hole Wyoming. Love it there!!

  33. Terri Cannell September 17, 2013 at 11:19 pm

My guess is you took 70 east toward the Garden of the Gods formation and stayed in Colorado. There are some cabins to stay in near rivers with good fishing too.

  34. Terri Cannell September 17, 2013 at 11:39 pm

I see your pics of Mirror Lake now… Em duh? Was it that easy?

  35. Ashley C September 18, 2013 at 12:37 am

    Jackson Hole, Wyoming

  36. Ruth Gauss September 18, 2013 at 6:05 am

I hope you’re having fun, Kerri! I love this country! It’s amazing what you can see when you get in the car and drive! Just a few hours and you’re in a different world! Well, I’ve been to Jackson, WY, so that’s my guess (but probably not where you are/were because there wasn’t quite the length of main street that I remember as you have in your picture, but since I’ve been there, I’m sticking with it!)
Thanks for sharing (especially the photo app)! I hope we get to hear all about your trip when you get back!

  37. Rebecca Fellows September 18, 2013 at 7:17 am

I’ll say Park city. :). And I just barely turned the HDR feature on. It does make a world of difference in my photos!

  38. kimmik September 18, 2013 at 8:49 am

My guess would be Jackson Hole, WY. Once you make it through some desolate areas there’s a beautiful world waiting.
Thanks for sharing your work with all of us!

  39. Vera W. Yates September 18, 2013 at 9:41 am

  41. Cindy Brooks September 18, 2013 at 3:48 pm

I think you’re hiking along the Snake River in the Tetons, north of Jackson Hole…

  42. Dana Marie September 18, 2013 at 5:28 pm

That looks like Jackson Hole, WY to me, although I haven’t been there in a long time.

  43. ana roat September 18, 2013 at 8:15 pm

I’m going to guess right over the border and into Colorado…!
