I know you’ve been dying to hear this (ha ha).
I can remember with each step that I’ve taken into the social media world that it was a big decision. I’ve never been one to be ‘first’ with anything. I’m much more methodical and watch and think and wonder . . . is it for me?
My first jump into the social media world was starting a blog. While many people had blogs, I never thought I would have anything important or interesting enough to say or share. It took me a few short years before I finally started in July 2008. (I still need to get that original Typepad blog imported to my WordPress blog. :) )
It’s fun to look back on the things that you write. It’s a journal of sorts. So whether or not you do it for yourself, family, or for work, give it a try because it’s really kind-a worth it.
That kept me happy and content for a while.
Fast forward to fall 2009 when I finally joined the ranks of Facebook. I told you I don’t jump into things. It even took me a whole year after I started my own business before I started a business Facebook page. (In case you need help with the math, that would be 2011–just two years ago.)
And now I love using Facebook for work. I never thought I would say that . . . ever. It allows me to share sneak peeks, reminders or just fun stuff at any time of the day or night. I don’t have to wait for the next day for a post. It’s real time. And I love that. And if you always want to be ‘in the know’ about KBS in real time and see other fun stuff that I don’t post on my blog? Follow me on Facebook. :)
Then came Pinterest…only earlier this year. Yeah. I know. It’s 2013. I told you I was slow to jump on any bandwagon, didn’t I? It’s not that I didn’t let my fingers do the walking through the gloriousness of visual goodness found there. I just didn’t have my own boards. But now I do. I’m building it slowly but surely. Pinterest is a great resource, but I find that I just don’t have the time to really utilize it like I should. But I’m trying. :)
And last but not least, we have Instagram. I actually tried out Instagram almost three years ago when it first came out. What??? But I only messed with it the one time and never used it again until I started using it this summer. Why is it so easy for some people to use and not so easy for others? And by that I mean, I have a hard time remembering to use Instagram. Help me to remember to use it, will ya? ;)
So if you’re feeling like adding one more bit of social media to your own social media, just so you can be completely social mediaed (yeah, it’s a word), then you can follow me here as well as the blog:
And I just have to add one more thing. I share so much more of the everyday me on Facebook. I share things that I see–scrapbook related, photos, etc. Like I say, it’s real time and it’s easy to have a thought or a photo and share it in the moment. That’s the real me. Living in the moment, right then. (Okay, maybe it might have more to do with the fact that I forget about it 30 minutes later so I need to write it down right then…) For example, this was a photo I took bright and early today and shared it on Facebook.
So if you want to see and hear more of the everyday casual me? Then follow me on Facebook. That’s where I feel like I can quickly share more of me an what I see…my personality…the carefree me. :) Oh, and I should add that if you want to be sure that you see everything from anyone on FB, go to Liked and choose Settings/All Updates.
And that’s the end of the social media story…until the next big thing…which will take me two years to start doing.
