I’ve never really given much thought to Labor Day. I know why we celebrate it, but in my mind, it’s usually just the end to summer. Or better yet, the day that signifies the last time you can wear white. Because we all know what a fashionista I am.
This year, I kind of took it to heart.
What is Labor Day?
It’s a day dedicated to the social and economic achievements of workers.
Well, I think that pretty much applies to everyone in the work force. But it hit me deeper than that this year, being the ‘CEO’ of my own company and all.
If you would have asked me ten years ago what I’d be doing at this stage of my life, ‘owning my own company’ would not have been the answer coming out of my mouth.
I love doing what I’m doing.
There are times when I look online and see so many people in the same boat as me–entrepreneurs in their own little corner of the world. I am constantly amazed by the talent and the way we can share them in this internet-lovin’ world. I think when they coined the term Labor Day–defining it as a dedication to the social and economic achievements of workers–today’s world of social media mixed with economic accessibility would never have entered their minds.
I think about the four years that I’ve been my own little ‘CEO’ and know that this has truly been a labor of love.
A love of creating.
A love of connecting.
A love of being a working mom at home.
A love of the beauty that I see from so many people every day in this industry.
So much creativity out there…I am constantly wowed.
And so today, in honor of Labor Day, this little KBS company has something fun–if you’ll pardon the pun–in store for you today!
Let’s start with a one-day only freebie.
This is no longer available as a freebie, but you can get it in the store.
I thought that phrase was very apropos for today in so many ways. And you can use it in so many ways too!
Be sure to get it downloaded because it goes into the store tomorrow.
And now, what would a Labor Day be
without a wee sale.
You can also add these two Grammar School kits to your shopping list.
I had to stop somewhere–especially with the Adverbs…oh my goodness! And on many of those words, you can trim off the ‘ly’ and give yourself an extra word–like changing wildly to wild.
You can have lots of fun with the Pronouns by combing them using the ‘and’ that’s been included in the kit. Or, simply had the word ‘she.’ to a page about your daughter.
Try combining them with other words that you type up so that you have a script word and a solid sans serif word. Maybe a little something like this:
Sooooo many possibilities! Even combining the words from both kits would be awesome. Positively you. Definitely him. Yours truly.
The list could go on and on.
One last thing–speaking of entrepreneurs–if you haven’t heard, sweet little Rhonna Farrer has launched a new app and it’s now in the iTunes store.
This app is a whole lotta fun! It lets you add bokeh, light leaks, color variations, textures and so much more! On top of that, you can easily switch between her apps, so you can add some of her fabulous words and icons in her first app.
I played with it a little this weekend and thought I’d share a little before and after.
I love how it took one of my favorite photos ever (so in love with those colors!) and truly turned it into something magical. There is a reason why this app is called Magic!
Here is a screen shot of the layers that I used, which included light leaks, bokeh, blur, texture and color (from bottom to top).
It’s so easy to use and the creative possibilities are endless! See what I mean about the talent out there?
I hope you have an amazing Labor Day!
And hello? September???
