12 Days of Christmas | Day 10 | Dashing Through The Snow

want to be dashing through the snow. I don’t need a one-horse open sleigh…just gimme some snow to dash in, alright? This 50 degree stuff in December is ‘nice’, but I need some snow.

I guess until I get some, I can gaze upon the beauty of this little number by Layle.

Our story begins with narration from Layle herself:

Last December, I told my husband and our boys that all I wanted for Christmas from them was an afternoon of snow shoeing together, and that’s what I got (albeit an early Christmas presents)! Kerri’s Hello December kit of 3×4 cards was perfect for capturing our day ‘pocket page style’ with the red, black & a pop of yellow instead of green, so it wasn’t too Christmasy for what I had in mind.

I cut the word ‘December’ from the On the Calendar kit so it would fit inside the label on one of the Hello December cards.

We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day! I wanted to include one of my favorite scenery photos from the day with the sun peeking through the trees, but I shot it portrait style and I would have had to crop too much of it off to fit in the pocket page. I solved that by printing the photo 6×8″, then cutting it into two 4×6 photos and inserting them in the pockets. Before I printed the photo, I added the word ‘seriously’, from the Grammar School – The Adverbs kit, to the bottom of the photo in Photoshop.

On the right side of the spread I used the Dashing Through the Snow cut file – Kerri was so awesome to create this for me for this spread, it fits perfectly with the photo of our boys running through the forest with their snow shoes on!

I cut a few snowflakes from the This and That: Just Winter Shapes kit in different sizes out of American Crafts POW glitter paper – sigh…., I just love that paper! I added a few of the snowflakes to the top of the pocket pages to give a little more added dimension.

I don’t even know where to begin because I love everything about this spread! Love the 3×4 cards. Love how Layle incorporated so many handwritten goodies. Love the snowflakes in the POW glitter paper….

It’s all just awesome…absolutely awesome!

And now, if you were needing to do a little dashing through the snow yourself, download this one-day-only freebie and you are set! Okay, maybe snow might be required…and maybe we’ll get it some day ’round these parts.

Hi I am having some trouble with the twelves days cut files. I am using a silhouette cameo and studio v.3 and bring to import the SVG file, but am getting the error med that this is an unsupported file type.

I have used files from you before without issue.

      Hey Louise!
It might be that your setup or browser is reading the free downloaded file–which comes from a different source– differently than when you purchase a file. See what happens if you go to File/Open in the Silhouette software. Also check the Tutorials/Silhouette link for tips on importing and see if that helps.

      Keep me posted.

I’m not really a PL scrapper but I’m beginning to like the idea of just breaking down my 12×12 page to fit the pockets and I’m really enjoying it! It gives me more places to hide journaling behind while the photos are the focus! Thanks for more inspiration today and for the freebie!
    Blessings,
    Melitta

I love the lay-outs. Thank you for sharing! I bought the Hello December cards and this gives me some fabulous ideas on how to incorporate them. I think I’m going to print one as home décor too. =)

Louise, I’ve had that problem in the past with the Silhouette. It ended up resolving itself when I re-started my Silhouette Software and my computer. I hope that helps. Good luck!

I’m feeling a bit silly but I thought the 12 Days card set would be printable without using my Silhouette? Is it possible to use any of the files to take to Staples and have them print? Not really sure about the file extensions. Thanks.

    • Kerri December 10, 2014 at 4:04 pm

PNG files are what you can use to print an image.
You wouldn’t need Silhouette to do it.
      Hope that helps. :)

Thanks Kerri – you’re always so good at responding! Off to Staples :)
