I have many memories of traveling ‘the open road’ in my childhood. Having been born in Oregon, we took trips to the beach–Lincoln City, in particular–or traveled across the state to visit cousins in La Grande and then on into Idaho to visit grandparents on the farm. Sometimes we’d all caravan together. Such fun times. I don’t know how they put up with us girl cousins singing songs all the way. I know we didn’t sing softly. ;)
I also have fond memories of my mom telling us to count the waterfalls and not so fond memories of orange soda that warmed way too fast in the non-air conditioned station wagon. I remember making beds on top of the suitcases in the back of the station wagon where we sat and how we thought we had the prime place to be. This was before the days of using seat belts for reals. Oh, and let’s not forget the smell of crayons always, which makes me think of traveling too.
I was reminded of all of this as the girls and I took a recent road trip down to California to help get Jordan down to a girls camp where she’s working for the rest of the summer–getting to work with the girls riding horses. How cool is that?
That’s why today’s Weekly Summer Freebie is The Open Road with a retro station wagon–and maybe in a style little before my time. ;) Cut it, print it, and even change the colors to match your own color scheme.
Now I have this urge to make a 70s playlist with songs like Uncle Albert and Honky Cat and head to the Oregon Coast. It was always a game to see who could see the ocean first…I’m ready to play now…like really…right now.
By the way, this car would be awesome to use with a Christmas tree on top for the holidays!
The Weekly Summer Freebie is a design available every Monday for free until Sunday night. This summer fun goes from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
