Oh my goodness gracious are we going to have some fun this month, starting with our (inter)National Scrapbook Day festivities!

And what does that mean?

And what else do we have going on, you ask?
Well, let me tell you a little story first.

I’ve had a love of type for many, many years. It started with me finding a job at WordPerfect in 1988 and I did all I could to figure out how to make newsletters, planner pages and all sorts of things look nice. It’s pretty insane to think that was 34 years ago and my first computer was a two-floppy disk drive. But my love of type has never dwindled. In fact, it just became more and more of a passion. In 2006 I bought a laptop and Illustrator–so I could sit away from my children to work when needed (haha)–and created a Cricut cartridge called Graphically Speaking. Between it and Printing Press, that’s how I learned Illustrator. I shudder at what I didn’t know and painstakingly learned. I’ve come a looong way since then. ;)

Fast forward to what I do now. I get to be creative with all sorts words. They are my life. They are my favorite accent. I love expressing myself with great type and love that I can create products to do that…and at a faster rate than 15 years ago. haha

Therefore, during the month of May we have a theme going on: Type Hype. You’ll get to see wonderful examples from the team and guest artists on the hype of type all month long! And I tell you what, I’ve seen these girls work their magic with words and it is amazing!

But before we see our first example, I wanted to share the brand new May stamps with you…just more glorious type to be hyped about!

 

 

Southern California has an easy, breezy coastal vibe. The I Love New York and New York City stamps…what can I say…I had way too many ideas for this subject and therefore two sets were born. And then we needed outlined versions of Headlines…like, obviously…so we have Headline Upper Outline, Headline Lower Outline, Headline Upper SM Outline and Headline Lower SM Outline. Of course they look pretty awesome with the solid versions.

Here’s an example of what you can do with the likes of the Southern California, Headline Upper Outline and Headline Upper stamp sets. I do like making a scene. ;)

And now, let’s take a look at a bit of magnificence from Miss Melissa because…c’mon, that title page is awesome!

 

 

 

For this iNSD, Kerri challenged us to use alpha stamps.  I love this quote and I have been wanting to use it in a project for a while now.  I thought  this would be the perfect opportunity to let those alpha stamps shine. 

To stamp the quote, I used the Headline Lower Outline to stamp out the entire quote on a piece of patterned paper. I used green ink a few shades darker than the patterned paper so the quote would pop.  Keeping the project monochromatic, I used a couple more shades of green to 1. fill in some of the words of the quote using the Headline Lower stamp, and to 2. add some ink splatter, using the Inked stamp set, throughout the paper.  I added some green stitching at the bottom left. 

On the right side, I used this picture of me in Yosemite. The story I wanted to tell with this picture, the story of growing wiser or aging as some call it, I thought went well with the quote. I wanted the quote to be the focus so I kept the embellishments on the picture very minimal. I stitched a tag, using the same green thread from the left side, from the Summer Mix tag set. Then I stamped the month using the Fill in the Blank stamp set and the year, twenty twenty, from the Year Round stamp set.  That’s it friends. I hope I’ve inspired you to create something fun with your alpha stamps.
