Much of summer is about the food—the gardens, the fresh fruit, the barbecues, the carnival food, the ice cream…always the ice cream. ;) So of course we needed a Summer Notice Freebie of Food.

My page today has a little twist on what I noticed on this summer day in July. I always love a good sunset on the family farm in Idaho and this one was amazing as the sun tucked behind the trees of my great uncle’s farm (he’s passed away) and cast light on a section of the sugar beets on our family land that has been leased to ‘neighbors’ for producing crops.

 

 

When I was a child you could often find beans and potatoes in those fields. We’d sit outside and snap beans for canning early in the morning. Other times we’d be picking fresh raspberries for jam. My grandpa loved bread, milk and fresh raspberries for dessert. And probably my most favorite summer memories are that of eating fresh potatoes, corn on the cob and cucumbers in vinegar at the dining room table under the simple brass chandelier. The best food ever.

That’s what I noticed and remembered. And I’m grateful for the farmers that feed us.

And I just noticed that today’s date is the 9th, my mom’s birthday. She would have been 83 today. She passed away 17 years ago and many of these memories I’ve shared included my mom. I guess this page was appropriate for today. :)
