Oh my goodness, I have been so excited for this release of 22 KB White+Black Lightroom Mobile Presets! There’s something so classic and timeless when a photo is in black+white. I particularly love it for architecture, but also for landscape and portraits. mmmm….

These simple+lovely presets work with the free version of the Adobe Lightroom Mobile app. You can also use them on a desktop, but I do 99% of my photo editing on my phone and I wanted to make them usable for anyone using the free mobile app.

Many of these presets are edits I’ve used over time. And I’ll tell ya, there is more than one way to make a black and white photo in Lightroom, which I have taken full advantage of. ;) But the most fun way is if you click on the B+W button (under Color) to convert it, becaaaauuuuse then you can have some fun changing the luminance of the colors in your photo. It’s kind of like all that color is sitting under a black+white overlay and you can increase or decrease how much ‘color’ there is using a greyscale. For example, if you have a blue sky and maybe some clouds, you can move the Blue Luminance (under Color/Grey Mix) scale up or down to make it more light+serene or darker+dramatic. This is something that I’ll be showing you how it works sometime down the road.

In the meantime, here is an example of one photo done with five different presets so you can see just how you can change the mood depending on the preset you select. Here’s what was used on the original photo: KB W+B Baby Bright, KB W+B Carefree, KB W+B Grunge Light, KB W+B Medium and KB W+B Paris Time. (Sorry if the photos aren’t looking as sharp as they really are. Not sure why it’s doing that.)

 

 

 

Each one has such a unique look! Some will look softer, some more contrasty, some might look grainy, some brighter and some darker. Additionally, every photo is unique with its own colors, tones, shadows, highlights…all of it. And each preset can have a big difference on a photo or some presets can look kind of similar on one photo. It all depends on what’s going on within that photo.

And in case you’re wondering why they are called White+Black, well, that’s a little organizational naming trick. I like keeping certain presets together. So if you have the Everyday Preset pack, you can still organize all the KB presets together by naming them just as I’ve named them (instructions are included in the kit). So if it’s KB W+B Carefree, it’ll be down at the bottom with all the W’s, which are strictly black and white…or white+black, leaving all the color presets together (insert happy clapping here).
