You know, for someone that was never much of a Hawaii vacationer through the years, we sure have been quite a bit during the last four years. A couple times we were there for an extended period for Dan’s work and a couple times we were there as a family after losing parents and needing to restore our souls. We will also be going again soon to spread the ashes of my dad and stepmom. Kauai has become our special place of rest for sure.

So needless to say I have A LOT of photos and I need all the ideas I can get! Good thing we’ve got Nancy here today to give us a beautiful idea! Ohhh how I love the way she mixed in the Highlights stamp with this month’s stamps here. It’s just fantastic.

 

When I saw the sunburst on the new Solar Powered stamp set, I immediately thought – sunset! I knew I wanted to document a story from our vacation to Oahu last year. While the obvious choice would have been a beautiful sunset photo, I wanted to challenge myself to do something a little bit different. Instead I went with a story of the hula dance we enjoyed at our resort that took place right at the golden hour poolside. It was a perfect memory.

I started the layout on the left with an enlarged photo and a bold title. The new Plain Pine stamp is tall and chunky and lovely. It balanced out the large photo and story. I added a small line of text “Best Moments in the Sun” from Solar Powered for contrast.

 

 

On the right side, I used the Highlights stamp set for the design base. Up at the top, the sunburst from Solar Powered in a mix of yellow and coral inks adds a great punch of color to the design. Just underneath, I used a subtitle of Sunshine Just what the Soul Needed from the same set. At the bottom, I added a few stamps from the Aloha stamp set to give it a little Hawaii flair.
I used a total of four different stamp sets to build this story layout of our time in the sun. The Solar Powered stamp set and Plain Pine alpha are perfect for all your summer projects!
